What to Expect
We are looking for a self-motivated Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist to join our team of safety professionals supporting our warehousing and distribution network. The candidate will apply risk assessment methods, machine safety design principles, and compliance assurance processes to facilitate excellent engineering, operations and EHS outcomes. This position will be focused on equipment design safety in partnership with our automation engineers and will assist with management of change for new product, process, and equipment while also strategizing to drive EHS policies, programs and procedures across multiple sites. This individual will be responsible for protecting people by influencing operations excellence, managing regulatory compliance, driving overall risk reduction, and achieving EHS excellence across multiple sites. This position will also ensure world-class process standards are met and sustained across site operations. This position will interface with operations leaders, front line associates, as well as other related teams within Tesla. This position will be based out of San Bernardino, CA and will also support sites in-person across Southern California and the Southwest.
What You'll Do
- Perform technical analyses to evaluate and validate designs against regulatory and internal standards, and provide feasible and creative recommendations supported by objective findings
- Utilize ANSI, ISO, RIA, NFPA, IBC and OSHA equipment, electrical and facility design standards, in addition to Tesla's Design Targets, to drive consistent and high-quality safety and engineering outcomes - in response to events/incidents as well as gap analyses or audits
- Develop and nurture a partnership with operations leadership, other key stakeholder functions, and front-line staff within the PDC operations acting as a key advisor. Provide information and tools to allow the operations personnel to operate at the highest level of safety standards
- Ensure key risks and compliance requirements pertaining to environmental, occupational health and industrial safety are identified, escalated, and controlled across operations. Remain informed of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization
- Collaborate with industrial and process engineering, operations, facilities/workplace, and other key teams on complex technical projects, and provides support and technical expertise on operations design and safe work procedures
- Conduct and/or reviews risk assessments, job hazard analyses and provide advice on safety improvements
- Analyze data trends, recommend and support risk-reduction plans and corrective and preventive actions
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of experience in warehousing, distribution, or similar environments, with preferred expertise in logistical automation, loading/unloading and packaging operations, powered industrial trucks, material handling, conducting risk assessments, design reviews, and machine guarding audits
- Certifications such as ASP, CSP, CHMM, CPE, and CIH preferred
- Knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, NFPA and EPA regulations and standards required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills. Able to influence and communicate effectively with management, EHS leaders, regulators, project management staff and third-party clients and suppliers. Proficiency in communication mediums such as emails, slide decks, and spreadsheets
- Ability to work effectively, autonomously, and efficiently under pressure
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 40%

Expected Compensation
$63,360 - $108,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
