Company Overview

KLA is a global leader in diversified electronics for the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. Virtually every electronic device in the world is produced using our technologies. No laptop, smartphone, wearable device, voice-controlled gadget, flexible screen, VR device or smart car would have made it into your hands without us. KLA invents systems and solutions for the manufacturing of wafers and reticles, integrated circuits, packaging, printed circuit boards and flat panel displays. The innovative ideas and devices that are advancing humanity all begin with inspiration, research and development. KLA focuses more than average on innovation and we invest 15% of sales back into R&D. Our expert teams of physicists, engineers, data scientists and problem-solvers work together with the world's leading technology providers to accelerate the delivery of tomorrow's electronic devices. Life here is exciting and our teams thrive on tackling really hard problems. There is never a dull moment with us.

Group/Division

With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA's metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientist, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers. The RAPID division is the world leading provider of reticle inspection solutions for the semiconductor industry. The company provides inspection solutions to both the mask shops and the semiconductor fabs to ensure that lithography yields are consistently high thus enabling cost-effective manufacturing.

Job Description/Preferred Qualifications

  • Lead cross-functional integration: participate in design reviews, manage ECOs, support manufacturing release, create calibration/build/service procedures, and contribute to continuous improvement post-release.

  • Develop and execute test plans: define requirements, author verification/validation plans, perform system bring-up, and analyze data to confirm performance, reliability and serviceability prior to release.

  • Hands-on debug & escalation support during prototype builds, alpha/beta runs and early field deployments; collaborate with field/service and quality teams to drive root-cause and corrective actions.

  • Architect and integrate industrial control: configure PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) chassis and I/O modules; map sensors/actuators; work with software/control teams on I/O lists, safety interlocks and sequence validation.

  • Own interconnect design: create and maintain rack/tool-level interconnect diagrams, cable trees, and wiring schematics; specify connectors, wire gauges, harnessing, labeling and routing for serviceability and EMC/EMI robustness.

  • Design, test, and bring-up hardware including electrical breakout boxes and custom fixtures to support integration, troubleshooting, and manufacturing test; define acceptance criteria and release documentation.

  • Power distribution & safety: design and integrate PDUs (single/three-phase AC and internal DC rails), over-current protection, grounding, and emergency-off interfaces at rack/tool level.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or other related field and 4+ years of relevant industry experience; or MS in these fields and 2+ years.

  • Strong cross-functional communication; ability to translate requirements into buildable, serviceable electrical designs and clear manufacturing/service documentation.

  • Experience in semiconductor capital equipment (inspection, metrology, lithography, vacuum tools, robotics) or other high-complexity industrial systems.

  • Familiarity with system-level integration across optics/mechatronics/motion control and their interfaces.

  • Experience releasing designs via ECOs and supporting manufacturing/service with procedures, training and serviceability validation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS & MS in Electrical Engineering preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to read/create interconnect diagrams and electrical schematics, and to build/debug electrical panels, racks, or cabinets.

  • Experience designing electrical breakout boxes or equivalent test fixtures; comfort with DMMs, scopes, logic analyzers and safety practices during energized testing.

  • Practical experience configuring PLC hardware (racks, power supplies, I/O modules) and wiring sensors/actuators; collaborating with controls/software on I/O mapping.

  • Hands-on rack-level power distribution (PDUs, load analysis, branch protection, grounding) in complex electromechanical systems.

  • Competence with statistical/analysis tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB or JMP) for requirement verification and data-driven root cause analysis.

  • Knowledge of Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) is a plus.

  • Experience using electrical design tools like Zuken E3 and AutoCAD is a plus.

Working Style & Travel

Onsite role in Milpitas to support lab integration, proto builds and cross-functional collaboration; limited travel may be required for beta/field support.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Level Degree and 2 years related work experience OR

  • Bachelor's Level Degree and related work experience of 4 years
