Maintenance Assistant

Staffmark is hiring a dedicated Maintenance Assistant to join our team in Charleston, SC. If you're skilled with tools, enjoy hands-on work, and take pride in maintaining safe and comfortable living spaces, we want to hear from you!

Pay Rate: $19/hour

Schedule: Monday-Friday or Tuesday-Saturday | Night shifts to start, with the potential to move to days based on seniority

Responsibilities:

• Assist with general maintenance and repairs in both occupied and vacant apartment units
• Support unit turnovers and prep work, including cleaning, painting, and minor repairs
• Help troubleshoot and repair basic plumbing, electrical, and HVAC issues under supervision
• Perform exterior maintenance such as groundskeeping, trash removal, pressure washing, and common area cleaning
• Complete work orders and respond promptly to resident maintenance requests
• Maintain tools, supplies, and equipment in an organized, functional manner
• Follow all safety protocols and property management standards

Qualifications:

• Experience required - this is not an entry-level position
• Prior maintenance, general labor, or handyman experience preferred
• Basic knowledge of tools and common maintenance practices
• Ability to lift up to 55 lbs and perform physical tasks (bending, climbing, standing for long periods)
• Strong communication skills and a professional, respectful attitude when interacting with residents
• Dependable, punctual, and eager to learn from experienced maintenance staff
