Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

This paragraph summarizes the general nature, level and purpose of the job.

This job family partners closely with the nursing and admitting departments and communicates bed availability for optimal management of hospital capacity and utilization. Utilize reporting tools to facilitate effective planning for future bed demand with nursing, physician, and administration representatives. Collect, analyze, evaluate and summarize data from referring hospitals, attending physicians, referring physicians and clinics regarding bed utilization; assess scheduled admissions, available beds and requested patient transfers on an on-going basis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

* Enters all deferral and expected discharge data into appropriate computer software on a daily and weekly basis.

* Identifies vacated beds through monitoring of bed board and upgrades bed cleaning priority level as required (i.e. STAT, Rush or Normal).

* Inputs the necessary data into electronic bed board during each shift to enable the Patient Placement Specialist II to effectively manage their shift and in preparation for daily bed meetings.

* Keeps detailed data on deferred and delayed patient admissions, providing weekly updates on patient placement issues.

* Provides analysis to Patient Placement Specialist II for the facilitation of daily bed meetings as required.

* Receives notification of confirmed discharges and transfers from each nursing unit and flags beds to become available in the electronic bed board.

* Receives patient placement requests from other hospitals, dispatch, clinics, and the SHC ED and community physicians, obtaining all information pertinent to assessing LPCHS placement capability. Works with physician liaison to ensure a high standard of communication and service.

* Reconciles OR schedule with Meditech list of admissions to ensure that non-surgical, direct admits are captured for bed assignment.

* Reviews incoming admission for appropriateness, utilizing documented criteria to determine whether patient meets requirement for short stay or observation status.

* Serves as system administrator for electronic bed board ensuring that user rights and system attributes are configured appropriately.

* Utilizes the Pre-Admit Tracking tool to enter patient information and determines if an appropriate bed is available based on placement requirements, nurse staffing levels, and beds currently available.

* Works with Administrative Nursing Manager to monitor census alert responses by key physicians, administrators, and nursing staff and assists in timely bed turnaround activities as patients are moving through the system.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent

Experience: Two (2) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience

Licensure/Certification: None required.

KNOWLEDGE

* Ability to demonstrate customer service skills in interactions with all patients, families and staff, including high volume and stressful situations

* Ability to read and utilize required information in the patient record

* Ability to speak and write effectively at a level appropriate for the job

* Ability to work well with individuals at all levels of the organization

* Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area

* Knowledge of Medical Terminology

Pay Range

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.

Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Minimum to Midpoint Range (Hourly): $34.03 to $38.61
