Job Summary

Under primary supervision of the Director of Student Engagement and Success, College of Letters and Science Undergraduate Education and Advising develop, plan, lead, and implement student leadership, development, engagement, experiential learning, retention, and success programs in L&S, including Ambassadors of Letters and Science, peer-to-peer mentorship programs, scholarships/awards, and student clubs/organizations. Design, conduct and/or coordinate the Ambassador annual first-year seminar class and other workshops or courses. Build and implement career development and other beyond the classroom opportunities by connecting student organizations with L&S alumni, industry leaders and employers, and other external agencies and constituents. Research, recommend, implement and assess an innovative strategy for College- wide mentorship programs for first-time and transfer students; develop and support initiatives designed to address the changing social, academic, and career development needs of our diverse student population. Plan engagement, professional development, academic intervention, and networking events for L&S students, particularly first-generation, low-income and other students with need. In collaboration with the L&S Events Manager and Academic Success and Engagement Coordinator, plan and facilitate quarterly engagement events for L&S student interaction and networking with college and campus executive and academic leadership. Manage and support the L&S Honors and Awards programs. Serve as the staff analyst to the L&S Honors and Awards faculty committee: Recruit, nominate, and select students for college-wide outstanding student and graduation awards, including the College and University Medals. In partnership with other academic advising units and student success initiatives, the incumbent will work to implement campus-wide student development and leadership initiatives, and act as the representative of the unit in discussions with other student-oriented units, including those housed in the other undergraduate colleges, Undergraduate Education, or Student Affairs.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience in a related field or discipline.
  • Knowledge and experience in multicultural and student development and student leadership theories and advising within an academic environment including pressures encountered by students at a major research university.
  • Experience working with student leaders to establish expectations, assign tasks, provide appropriate coaching, and provide corrective feedback as needed.
  • Project management experience in applying strategic visions to lead student retention/development/outreach initiatives in higher education.
  • Experience writing, editing and proofreading correspondence and other documents, using proper grammar, as well as using interpersonal, communication, and effective listening skills to interact positively and cooperatively with a diverse community of students, parents, faculty, administrators, staff, and the general public in a higher education setting, including group and large-scale presentations.
  • Skills in leadership, decision-making, and organizational structure methodologies to plan, coordinate and evaluate program/student needs, problem-solve and train others.Knowledge of federal/state/university regulations, and policies governing confidentiality of information, student records and materials, as well as of campus services and community resources available for underrepresented students, including familiarity with current campus issues, policies, and practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience implementing effective promotional and marketing techniques to target audiences including researching industry trends and benchmarks, collecting and analyzing information.
  • Experience recruiting, training, coordinating and motivating students, volunteers and staff in an academic environment.
  • Experience coordinating multi-faceted logistical planning and programming for events to targeted constituencies in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Experience writing and managing content for the Web, and with social media communications. Experience coordinating and managing team meetings, using best practices in communications.
  • Experience with UCD automated financial and accounting systems (AggieEnterprise, My Travel,UCD Buy, CONNEXXUS, Banner, AIS).
  • Skills to develop, implement, evaluate and compare college level student programs and activities. Link program objectives to measurable program outcomes and develop recommendations for senior management based upon program evaluation results.
  • Skills using entrepreneurial and innovative approaches for connecting messaging and branding goals to events and other public relations efforts. In-depth knowledge of UC admissions policies and procedures affecting programs and student issues.
  • Knowledge of UC Davis student service units and activities. Knowledge of or ability to learn university, departmental, and campus policies and procedures for general administrative functions.

Work Environment
