Job Overview

The Community Liaison serves as a vital member of the RWJBarnabas Health Community Health Department, reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Community Health. This role is central to advancing RWJBH s mission to improve the health and well-being of the communities we serve through proactive engagement, collaboration, and partnership development. The Liaison will strengthen relationships with key community stakeholders, organizations, and populations to enhance collaboration, promote inclusion, and increase awareness of RWJBH s programs and services. Acting as a connector between the health system and local communities, the position will ensure that engagement strategies are responsive, coordinated, and aligned with RWJBH s population health and community priorities. The Liaison will support RWJBH s efforts to expand engagement across community sectors through partnership and joint initiatives responsive to local priorities and values.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelors degree in Public Health, Social Work, Communications, Community Relations, or a related field required
  • Minimum of three years of experience in community engagement, outreach, or partnership development within healthcare, nonprofit, or public sector
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and populations
  • Strong relationship building, communication, and facilitation skills
  • Ability to engage effectively with a wide range of community and organizational partners
  • Strategic and analytical thinker capable of linking community insights to organizational objectives
  • Highly organized, with strong planning, time management, and follow-through
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and virtual collaboration platforms

Preferred

  • Masters degree preferred

Essential Job Functions

  • Community Engagement & Partnership Development
    • Build, sustain, and expand relationships with community leaders, organizations, and residents across diverse populations
    • Represent RWJBH at community meetings, coalitions, and public events to promote awareness of programs and initiativesIdentify and collaborate with faith-based, cultural, and civic institutions to co-develop initiatives that advance community health priorities
    • Serve as a liaison between RWJBH hospitals, departments, and community partners to strengthen communication and coordination
  • Program Implementation & Support
    • Assist in the design, planning, and execution of community health events, education sessions, and outreach campaigns
    • Collaborate with internal teams to align engagement activities with hospital and system wide strategic goals
    • Support efforts that enhance access to health information, preventive care, and wellness resources within priority populations
    • Coordinate logistics and community representation for RWJBH participation in external events
  • Reporting & Continuous Improvement
    • Document engagement activities, maintain up-to-date partnership databases, and track outcomes
    • Collect and share insights on emerging community needs, trends, and opportunities for collaboration
    • Contribute to program reporting, performance measures, and continuous quality improvement efforts related to community engagement
