The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

The RWJBarnabas Corporate Payroll department supports an employee base of more than 40,000 employees. The Payroll Specialist is responsible for performing various and more complex duties including, but not limited to: educating and training to sites on payroll practices.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma
  • 2+ years Payroll experience
  • Experience working with large complex clients, preferably in a healthcare setting
  • Excellent customer service skills with a dedication to effective and timely resolution of outstanding issues,
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with all levels of management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Must be able to adhere to confidentiality standards and professional boundaries at all times

Preferred:

  • Associates degree or equivalent level of experience

  • Experience with PeopleSoft Payroll

  • Previous experience with tax and vendor updates within a large payroll system

  • Payroll, Finance, Accounting, and/or Payroll Tax experience

  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local tax practices

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • Fundamental Payroll or Certified Payroll Professional certification; or, as a condition of employment, obtain certification within 1 year of starting

Essential Job Functions:

  • Review and follow-up with sites with education and training on Off-Cycle Checks, Missed Swipes and Non-Approved Timesheets based on data in Tableau
  • Review and calculate Retro Pay for all sites
  • Provide assistance in processing balance adjustments and tax adjustments
  • Monitor eTime Time and Attendance for timecard errors, mis-swipes, and missing approvals on a weekly basis and follow-up with the sites along with the assigned processor to resolve issues before payroll is processed
  • Work with Payroll management to develop reports to assist the department in processing, identifying errors, trends
  • Ability to research and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner, including but not limited to employee information, payroll, payroll taxes and reporting
  • Ability to solve more complex tax and payroll issues in an unsupervised environment
  • Ability to evaluate overall situation to prioritize work
  • Provide payroll processing support to function as a back-up for vacations and other absences
  • Refer to the Payroll Processor job description for essential functions
  • Understand end to end payroll processing steps and downstream impact of transaction processing
