The Department of Radiology is seeking a temporary Research Assistant to do the following key areas of responsibility:

Research:



  • Perform research activities based upon protocols developed by other research staff or principal investigator of the research project.
  • Read and review articles as directed.
  • As individual skills develop, analyze literature to develop hypothesis for discussion with other researchers or principal investigator.


Conduct Experiments:

* Read and understand protocols.

* As individual skills develop, troubleshoot and analyze protocols; propose modifications to other researchers or principal investigator.

* Arrange and plan daily activities to prepare for experimental protocols.

* As individual skills develop perform complex techniques as outlined in research protocols and test and evaluate current procedures.

* Set up and operate equipment for experiments.

* Perform experimental procedures assuring fidelity to protocols; record and consolidate data as directed by Principal Investigator (PI).

* Track progress/success of research project. As skills develop may present results at lab meetings.

* As skills develop, develop and monitor quality controls.

Analyze and Summarize Data; Prepare Reports; Contribute to Manuscripts, Publications:

* Collect, track, and perform data entry for reports.

* Prepare materials for reports. As skills develop, analyze data. Prepare bibliographies and abstracts for publications.

Administrative and Project Management:

* Perform a variety of routine tasks related to the recruitment, enrollment and monitoring of research subjects or to the research environment (lab, clinic, field, classroom).

* Obtain subject consent and assist with IRB submissions or equivalent protocol, if applicable.

* Adhere to safety and compliance guidelines.

Facilities and Equipment Management:

* Assist in the preparation, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory and facility equipment.

* Assist with procurement of supplies and materials.

* May initiate purchasing requests, monitor accounts/expenditures; reconcile statements.

Supervision/Staffing:

* May train, provide direction, assignments, feedback, coaching and counseling of employees to assure outcomes are achieved.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

Research



  • Knowledge of formal methodologies, tools and techniques for conducting research, studies and tests.


Research Analysis



  • Knowledge of and the ability to locate, interpret and evaluate research findings compiled and documented by others and use this material to support empirical research.


Research Documentation



  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize tools and techniques for producing well-written, meaningful and usable documentation of research findings.


Research Ethics/Compliance



  • Knowledge of practices, behaviors, applicable laws, rules, and regulations governing proper research conduct; ability to demonstrate ethical and compliant behavior in diverse situations.



Research Safety



  • Knowledge of the procedures and programs in place in the organization to ensure employee, student and subject safety (occupational safety, fire, patient, animal, drug, radiation, environmental safety and emergency plans); ability to train others; ability to take appropriate actions in case of emergency.



Adheres to UIHC policies regarding personal conduct, including: following established leadership, remaining responsive to instruction and coaching from supervisors and meeting the standards of personal appearance, attendance and punctuality.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS




  • Completion of a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • The ability to work independently with self motivation to complete the tasks at hand is required.
  • Must be proficient in computer software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • The ability to learn to efficiently use existing proprietary software required.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.

* Health sciences/engineering degree preferred.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS



  • Previous experience with biological sample organization, aliquoting, and database management.
