We seek candidates with a primary research specialization in European classical music before 1750, and one or more secondary research areas that will complement and extend those of our current faculty. The ideal candidate will be expected to develop impactful research through presentations at conferences and a strong publication record, and to advance teaching excellence, helping the department serve undergraduate students with a broad range of interests and career paths through teaching both specialized seminars for music majors and large GE courses. They will also be expected to contribute to the intellectual and artistic life of the university through active participation in interdisciplinary initiatives, and to engage in diverse forms of department and school service. While the position is in musicology, candidates holding a degree in music theory whose work is robustly historical will also be considered.

* A strong primary research agenda with potential for significant publication and impact in the field

* The ability to design and teach courses in one or more secondary research areas that contribute to the department's evolving undergraduate curriculum

* Demonstrated potential for success in teaching, including prior experience at the university level

* Demonstrated potential for supporting students with diverse interests and backgrounds, including helping oversee a newly designed BA emphasis in History and Theory of Music (HTM)

* Strong communication and organizational skills, including a capacity for collaborating effectively with colleagues across the department and school on complex issues such as curricular development

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience mentoring students with diverse career goals both in and beyond the music field

* Strong vision and potential for addressing teaching challenges faced by large public research universities, such as how to effectively design and teach large-enrollment classes
