GENERAL SUMMARY: The Pharmacy Specialist is a pharmacist who, by virtue of knowledge gained through special training and/or substantial experience, has become the institutional expert in a major area of pharmacy practice. The Pharmacy Specialist assumes overall leadership responsibility in directing the pharmacy-related activities in his/her area of specialty practice by planning, developing, and implementing new and/or improved systems or services. Generally works independently of direct supervision, and initiates discussion and action as necessary with other departments or clinicians in order to resolve problems and/or to effect change. The Pharmacy Specialist plays a role as a teacher and is responsible for helping other members of the staff master those skills necessary to effectively practice in his/her area. The Pharmacy Specialist uses scientific technique in applied research designed to resolve problems encountered in daily practice, and regularly contributes to the general body of knowledge pertaining to his/her specialty. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: In addition to fulfilling all other duties and responsibilities of a pharmacist, the Pharmacy Specialist:
- The Pharmacy Performance Improvement Lead plays a key role within Pharmacy Shared Services, supporting the High Value Pharmacy Enterprise (HVPE) by helping implement the integrated pharmacy analytics strategy and its tactics.
- Manage diverse medication analytics projects from conception to completion by collaborating with stakeholders to gather and translate requirements into data-driven solutions using sound process improvement strategies.
- Observe proper life cycle management on data projects to reduce risks, improve project outcomes, and to promote satisfaction and continuity with all customers including the pharmacy analytics team.
- Enhance data product management of the pharmacy analytics portfolio by participating in the team structure, ensuring translation of project outputs to current priorities of the HVPE data strategy and analytics program.
- Improve data culture and democratization by educating and promoting awareness to data content consumers and creators about self-service tools and informational resources and spreading good data practices.
- Support data stewardship activities for pharmacy data products and assets including data valuation, validation, quality assurance, and documentation.
- Help cultivate new data assets through the investigation of various business and data systems and engagement with relevant stakeholders.
- Collaborate and clearly communicate with diverse stakeholders (pharmacy and non-pharmacy including vendors) on data-related products and projects in various settings.
- Explore new technologies or features that drive adoption of advanced or automated data-related activities to increase capacity and impact of the HVPE analytics program and the overall enterprise.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Must hold a degree from an accredited college of pharmacy and must complete a residency training program or have equivalent experience in hospital pharmacy practice.
- Proven experience in project management, including planning, execution, and stakeholder communication within a healthcare environment preferred.
- Exceptional ability to collaborate with diverse teams, including clinical, technical, and leadership stakeholders.
- Familiarity with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., SQL, Tableau, Power BI) or other related technologies. A strong aptitude for learning new technologies is highly valued and can substitute for direct experience preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of pharmacist experience or the equivalent training and experience at another institution, preferred. - Must have demonstrated the ability to meet and exceed practice standards set for a Level II pharmacist. (Henry Ford Detroit Hospital Only)
- Must be able to serve as an institutional authority in a given specialty practice area.
- Must have demonstrable leadership abilities and exhibit teamwork when working with others.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills which enable him/her to contribute effectively in the dissemination of information to all levels of health care personnel in the institution. Should have a proven research/publication record.
- Must be qualified to work with pharmacy students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Must have a previous work history of reliability, dependability, and willingness to assume additional responsibilities.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
- Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Michigan. If eligible, licensure must be obtained within 30 days of hire; failure to obtain licensure will result in termination of the Pharmacy Specialist position.
