Manager, Environmental-Borger, TX

This position report to the General Manager.

What you will do:



  • Provide oversight of all environmental programs.
  • Provide oversight of onsite laboratory and lab personnel
  • Provide technical support to management in areas of environmental and emergency response.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans and audits routinely to ensure Borger Plant compliance with Nutrien Company directives, all federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations and industry best practice.
  • Represent Nutrien in its relationship with regulatory agencies.
  • Directly manages the air discipline of the environmental fields including stack testing and monitoring of the Title V air permit, review and submittal of TRI reports, and other related tasks as necessary.
  • Responsible for assisting with plant wide environmental technical and compliance programs to include but not limited to permitting, pollution control and prevention, hazard material and waste management, waste minimization, abatement, recycling, environmental testing and monitoring, remediation.
  • Assist with management and communication, interaction and or negotiation with regulatory agencies for Title V, CAA, ERCRA, TSCA, RCRA, CWA and remediation compliance activities.
  • Assist with planning, directs and coordinates department activities to ensure efficient environmental technical support to the Nitrogen and Phosphate production personnel, plant management, and corporate management as needed.
  • Plans schedule and establishes short- and long-term environmental strategies and goals for the continual improvement of plant environmental performance through employee education, process enhancements, waste stream reductions, etc.
  • Assist with reviews of plant process additions, modifications, construction, and operation for compliance with Company policy, local, state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Creates, reviews, manages, and advises on environmental correspondence, record keeping, and reporting documentation for plant environmental activities.
  • Manages and coordinates environmental certification, rectification, testing, sampling, monitoring, analytical calculations or analysis, creation of or revision of plant environmental programs, systems, and data.
  • Stays abreast of new and innovative environmental technologies, of new or pending environmental regulations, of available environmental contractor or vendor services, of area community official and governmental personnel changes which could have a negative or positive impact on the plant's environmental performance.
  • Serve as resource on environmental issues including regulatory compliance, Hazmat training, hazardous waste disposal and documentation.
  • Maintain environmental files for required permits, abatement activity, consultants' reports, etc.
  • Participate in preparation of regulatory report requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct air quality tests.
  • Prepare reports, studies and recommendations on air, water, and land test results.
  • Prepare, maintain, and distribute waste handling program information and assist with providing annual training of site personnel.
  • Prepare waste disposal documentation.
  • Conduct routine analysis to develop recommendations for site assessment, remediation criteria and regulatory agency compliance and audits.
  • Coordinate on findings of laboratory analysis of air, land and water samples, reviews any unusual findings.
  • Conduct background research on environmental issues.
  • Estimate and evaluate spills and the cost of clean-up requiring knowledge of various chemicals and materials used, their effect on the environment, the proper method of cleanup and ability to determine what the methods of cleanup will cost including labor and material.


What you will bring:

Required Education and Experience



  • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree and 10 years specialized experience in industrial manufacturing industry with specific training in Environmental.
  • Compliance. B. S. Degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or related discipline preferred.
  • 5 to 10 years Environmental Compliance in industrial manufacturing environment; experience varies depending on education.
