National Grid is hiring a Engineer (Electrical Planning and Design), Electrical Engineering for Massachusetts. This is a Onsite Role - Must live within a commutable distance to Northboro, MA.

Job Purpose

Perform engineering functions within the Protection Policy & Support group to ensure effective National Grid operations. Participate in project teams tasked with CIP Compliance, Cybersecurity & Network design.

Key Accountabilities

CYBER SECURITY AND COMPLIANCE:

* Monitor and review North American Reliability Corporation (NERC) Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) requirements for compliance.

* Develop and update operational policies as required

* Review protection equipment manufacturer firmware releases for security related updates

* Develop procedures for security patches and firmware updates to protection systems

* Perform Cyber Vulnerability evaluations of protective relay equipment and systems.

* Implement and manage access controls for cyber assets

* Develop training for Engineering and Field personnel for NERC CIP requirements and updates

* Represent Protection & Telecom Engineering in NERC CIP Audits

* Provide technical support to engineering and field personnel as Cyber Security subject matter expert.

* Ensure CIP requirements are adequately addressed in Procedures and Standards to demonstrate compliance and support following NERC CIP activities:

1. Quarterly access reviews

2. Annual password change control and review

3. Disaster Recovery Testing and reporting

4. BES Cyber Asset List updates

5. Review and update Substation Electronic Security Perimeter drawings

6. Password Policy reviews

7. Develop compliance reports as required Respond to Change Control Questions

8. Maintain, update and perform simple troubleshooting of BES Cyber Asset access controls.

NETWORK ENGINEERING:

  • Participate in the substation network commissioning & troubleshooting.
  • Manage patching and hardening of Windows and Linux-based protection and control systems in substations, ensuring timely updates and regulatory compliance.
  • Design secure and reliable substation communication networks that meet industry standards and support protection and control systems.
  • Develop robust standards for substation network architecture.
  • Install and configure ruggedized networking equipment and integrate SCADA, IEDs, and control systems for seamless operation.
  • Apply security measures such as segmentation, access control, and encryption to protect OT networks and maintain compliance with NERC CIP.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Information Technology
  • 2+years of related utility experience (1+ with Master of Science in Electrical Engineering degree)
  • a+ Network Certification preferred
  • Network+ Certification preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with PC, abilities include Microsoft Office suite or equivalent.

Capability Requirements:

  • Ability to prioritize work and be a team member on multiple projects at one time.
  • Work in a Project Management team environment.
  • Work on special projects and additional duties as directed.
