Overview

IBM i (AS/400) Senior System Engineer with a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in enterprise systems administration, architecture, and operations across commercial, financial, manufacturing, and government environments. Expert in IBM Power Systems (Power 8, 9, 10) setup, configuration, migration, and performance optimization, with a proven track record in high availability, disaster recovery, and compliance-driven environments. Adept at managing LPARs, HMCs, VIOS, and complex replication environments to ensure operational resilience and business continuity. Demonstrated success in upgrading and maintaining OS releases, implementing enterprise-wide security standards, and achieving SOX compliance through rigorous auditing, reporting, and access controls.


Responsibilities

  • Consultation - Provides consultative direction and technical advice relating to the Bank's operating systems, software, and hardware infrastructure. Supports all areas of Technology and Operations. Leads strategic designs, initiatives, and contributes to the analysis of new and existing Bank technologies.
  • Technical Support - Leads new technologies spanning hardware platforms, different operating systems, and database management systems. Coordinates network communication and application and data integration methods for new technologies. Performs planning and documentation throughout support activities. Leads processes related to strategic designs and implementations, backup, recovery, data security, and other disaster recovery functions. Resolves complex technical problems and failures, and automates tasks for improved efficiencies.
  • Project Management - Leads assigned technical projects ensuring accurate, timely, and quality delivery of project objectives. Guides the development and execution of project tasks.
  • Technical Expertise - Maintains a strong knowledge base in order to effectively create and maintain strategic technology plans and to direct others on technical matters. Communicates effective and clear technical information across platforms.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of experience in Systems engineer including systems programmer, scripting, troubleshooting OR High School Diploma or GED and 12 years of experience in Systems engineer including systems programmer, scripting, troubleshooting

  • IBM i (AS/400) Administration
  • IBM i (AS/400) Performance Tuning
  • IBM i (AS/400) Object security
  • Power 9 and Power 10 Host server administration
  • LPAR management
  • HMC configuration
  • VIOS administration
  • PTF maintenance
  • Image catalog
  • DR exercises
  • WebSphere server
  • OS upgrades
  • HA configuration using IBM's LPM
  • Websphere

Preferred experience:

  • Forta/PowerTech IBM i (AS/400) tools (e.g. Robot Scheduler and Performance Navigator)
  • Mimix HA

The base pay for this position is generally between $120,000 and $180,000. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
