Job Description

The Senior Agriculture Associate will play a vital role in maintaining the daily operations of the Foremost Dairy Farm, which is part of the Central MO Research Extension and Education Center (CM-REEC).

This position not only supports the dairy operations but also strengthens the university's research and teaching mission. In addition to the recent faculty hire of a dairy nutritionist, the MU Foremost Dairy Farm provides hands-on learning for more than 200 students each year.

By ensuring the health and productivity of the herd, the Senior Agriculture Associate will enable faculty and students to pursue innovative research and hands-on learning opportunities, while also supporting outreach efforts that benefit Missouri's agricultural producers and communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, service, and repair tractors, tractor attachments, farm equipment, milking parlor equipment, feed mixing equipment, sprayers, air compressors, pruners, and other machinery. Welds broken frames, braces and parts; replaces damaged and defective parts. Sharpen blades and other cutting edges and assist in assembling new farm equipment. Repairs are normally made with some independence.
  • Operate standard and highly specialized farm equipment to perform farm and field work. Operates tractor, truck, various attachments, and other farm machinery. As needed, operates milking parlor and equipment for feed preparation and delivery to cows. Drives large truck/trailer to haul sand, hay, feed, supplies, equipment, or livestock.
  • Assist in the care of cattle. Feed and water animals; herds animals to and from pastures or designated lots. Provides fresh bedding in sheds; assists in breeding and calving as directed. Assists in handling animals in preparation for vaccinating, weighing, or examination.
  • Train staff and students to ensure safe equipment use and support research excellence.
  • Provide support to veterinary and research faculty and students to assist with ongoing research activities.
  • Clean and care for equipment after usage; and maintain proper supply levels.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Shift

40-hour work week, typically 7:30am to 4pm M-F, with flexible scheduling and occasional weekends when needed.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Must have valid driver's license; CDL is preferred.

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $17.05 -$29.69/hour.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
