Location: 92 Campus Drive, Scarborough, ME
Schedule: Monday-Friday, Full-Time (40 hours/week)
Work Setting: Front Desk + Hybrid eligible after training

Position Summary
MaineHealth's Neurology Department is seeking a detail-oriented, collaborative, and patient-centered Patient Service Specialist (PSS) to join our fast-paced, high-volume outpatient practice in Scarborough. Our clinic sees up to 200 patients per day, and the PSS plays a crucial role in supporting smooth daily operations by managing scheduling, referrals, and a wide range of administrative and patient service needs.

This position sits at the front desk and serves as a primary point of contact for patients, families, and visitors. After a successful training period and demonstration of proficiency, this role is eligible for hybrid work, balancing onsite and remote responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage patient scheduling, including new visits, follow-ups, procedures, and diagnostic testing

  • Process and track incoming referrals, ensuring timely completion and communication

  • Greet and assist patients and visitors with professionalism and empathy

  • Support check-in and check-out processes and maintain accurate patient records

  • Answer and triage phone calls, messages, and appointment inquiries

  • Verify insurance information and assist with authorization processes

  • Work collaboratively with providers, nurses, and care teams to maintain efficient clinic operations

  • Uphold patient confidentiality and adhere to MaineHealth policies and procedures

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
  2. License/Certifications: N/A
  3. Experience: Six months of medical office experience required.
  4. Additional Skills/Requirements Required: N/A
  5. Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: Proficient computer skills.
