Patient Service Representative - Neurology Department

Location: 92 Campus Drive, Scarborough, ME
Schedule: Monday-Friday, Full-Time (40 hours/week)
Work Setting: Onsite, Front Desk

Position Summary
MaineHealth's Neurology Department is seeking an organized, compassionate, and customer-service-focused Patient Service Representative (PSR) to join our high-volume, fast-paced outpatient practice in Scarborough. Our team supports a large and dynamic clinic, seeing up to 200 patients per day, and the PSR plays a vital role in ensuring a smooth and positive experience for every patient from the moment they arrive.

As a front-desk representative, you will be the first point of contact for patients, families, and visitors-providing excellent service while managing check-in/check-out processes, scheduling, and administrative support for the clinical team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients and visitors in a courteous and professional manner

  • Manage patient check-in and check-out, verify demographics, and ensure accurate documentation

  • Schedule appointments, follow-ups, diagnostic testing, and referrals

  • Answer phone calls and direct inquiries to the appropriate team members

  • Verify insurance and obtain any necessary authorizations

  • Collect co-pays and process payments

  • Collaborate closely with providers, nurses, and support staff to maintain efficient clinic flow

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  1. Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
  2. License/Certifications: N/A
  3. Experience: Previous office experience with medical office experience preferred.
  4. Additional Skills/Requirements Required: N/A
  5. Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: Proficient computer skills.
