JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS Penn State University Press is seeking applicants for a temporary, part-time job of Copyright and Records Assistant. Job duties to include:
- Processing a backlog of books for copyright registration, identifying books missing copyright registration, filling out copyright applications, and coordinating shipment of deposit copies to the Copyright Office
- Sorting and digitizing paper documents (permissions, invoices, copyright certificates, etc.) as directed
- Reviewing miscellaneous files to determine, based on guidance provided, which files should be retained or discarded
- Auditing press library to identify duplicate and missing books and reshelve books out of alphabetical order
Requirements, qualifications, and/or competencies:
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks
- Excellent attention to detail for accurate completion of copyright applications and verification of bibliographic information.
- Ability to follow established procedures and guidelines when determining file retention and handling archival materials.
- Proficiency with basic office software and scanning equipment for document digitization and record-keeping.
- Ability to work independently and on-site in a warehouse/office environment, including handling and shelving books.
- Background in book publishing or related work preferred
Schedule, duration, and location:
- Approximately 20 hours per week
- Flexible scheduling within standard business hours (9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.)
- Funded for up to 24 weeks or until assigned tasks are completed, whichever comes first
- On-site work at Penn State University Press office and warehouse
Compensation: The rate for this job is $25 per hour. BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.
