Overview

LMI seeks an experienced Data Engineer to support the U.S. Army Center for Initial Military Training's (CIMT) Holistic Health & Fitness Management System (H2FMS).

H2FMS is the Army's secure cloud environment that hosts and integrates the vendor-developed H2F Application, enabling secure data ingestion, transformation, storage, access, and analytics for Human Performance Specialists and Army leadership.

The Data Engineer will design, develop, and sustain data pipelines, ETL processes, secure data stores, access layers, and APIs that enable analytics, dashboards, and UI capabilities. This role requires strong data engineering expertise, understanding of DoW cloud environments, secure data handling practices, and experience working within multidisciplinary Agile teams.

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on engineer who can build scalable data workflows in AWS, Azure, or cARMY; ensure compliance with Army data governance requirements; and collaborate closely with cloud architects, cybersecurity specialists, DevSecOps engineers, full stack developers, and Human Performance SMEs.

LMI is a new breed of digital solutions provider dedicated to accelerating government impact with innovation and speed. Investing in technology and prototypes ahead of need, LMI brings commercial-grade platforms and mission-ready AI to federal agencies at commercial speed.

Leveraging our mission-ready technology and solutions, proven expertise in federal deployment, and strategic relationships, we enhance outcomes for the government, efficiently and effectively. With a focus on agility and collaboration, LMI serves the defense, space, healthcare, and energy sectors-helping agencies navigate complexity and outpace change. Headquartered in Tysons, Virginia, LMI is committed to delivering impactful results that strengthen missions and drive lasting value.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest data from the vendor-developed H2F Application into H2FMS.
  • Implement data extraction, cleansing, transformation, validation, and enrichment processes.
  • Build scalable and secure data flows using cloud-native services (AWS Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, Data Factory, etc.).
  • Ensure pipelines are automated, resilient, testable, and fully monitored.
  • Develop and maintain secure data storage solutions (relational, NoSQL, object storage) aligned with Army security and tagging requirements.
  • Implement access layers, query services, and APIs enabling analytics, dashboards, and the H2FMS user interface.
  • Support efficient indexing, partitioning, caching, and performance optimization.
  • Ensure all data handling complies with RMF, Zero Trust, Army data-tagging, and privacy regulations.
  • Work with cybersecurity teams to implement encryption in transit/at rest, audit logging, access controls, and data lineage tracking.
  • Maintain documentation on schemas, transformations, and data flows for audit readiness and cATO support.
  • Collaborate with Human Performance Specialists, analysts, and UI developers to define data requirements for insights, visualizations, and decision-support tools.
  • Build data models and structures optimized for analytic consumption.
  • Implement APIs and data services that power visualizations, dashboards, and analytics products.
  • Integrate pipelines and data services into CI/CD processes with automated testing and code scanning.
  • Ensure infrastructure-as-code (IaC) definitions support consistent deployment of data components.
  • Participate in code reviews and implement secure coding practices.
  • Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and Agile ceremonies as part of the H2FMS technical team.
  • Translate user stories and stakeholder requirements into technical designs and data workflows.
  • Work with cloud architects, cybersecurity engineers, full stack developers, and the TPM to ensure end-to-end data integration.

  • Proficiency with SQL, Python, and data transformation tools/frameworks.
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, MongoDB).
  • Understanding of secure data handling, data governance, and DoW cybersecurity practices.
