The Transportation Solution Division within the Leidos Civil group is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer who will be a member of a dynamic team working Future Flight Services Program (FFSP), providing briefing and flight planning for the nation's general aviation community.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the design, planning and execution of end-to-end lift and shift migrations of existing workloads from bare metal and legacy virtualization platforms to robust, scalable, and secure hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) solutions (e.g., Harvester, Nutanix, VMware vSAN) to meet FAA requirements.
  • Develop, refine, and manage technical features, user stories, and associated backlog items.
  • Track migration and implementation progress across workstreams and report status, risks, and dependencies to stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation describing system configurations, infrastructure topology, migration approach, and operational considerations.
  • Collaborate with architects, platform engineers, and stakeholders to support storage policies, data protection, and disaster recovery needs for lift-and-shift workloads within the HCI ecosystem. Coordinate with application development, network, system owner, architecture, and security teams to ensure infrastructure alignment with system requirements.
  • Review the FAA requirement documents, advisory circulars, and applicable regulations (e.g., 14 CFR parts) to extract technical intent, constraints, and acceptance criteria.
  • Act as a technical liaison between engineers, partners, vendors, and program leadership. Capture, document, and communicate design decisions, performance trade-offs, regulatory compliance rationales, and risk assessments across releases, enabling reviewers to trace your decision-making process and provide informed feedback. Review and validate recommendations from subject matter experts (SMEs).
  • Lead and participate in structured reviews and inspections in support of design, readiness, and compliance objectives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field with at least 8 years of relevant experience
  • Experience and familiarity with agile methodology and principles (e.g., feature development, backlog grooming, iterative delivery).
  • Familiarity with HCI platforms such as Harvester, VMware vSAN, Nutanix, or equivalent sufficient to support migration planning and technical discussions.
  • Lift and shift migration support experience from bare metal and/or legacy virtualization platforms.
  • Foundational Kubernetes/container platform understanding including control plane concepts and workload hosting models. Familiarity with distributed storage concepts, data protection and disaster recovery considerations for virtualized workloads.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware vSphere) sufficient to support lift-and-shift migration planning and workload assessment.
  • Working understanding of networking principles (TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls) as they apply to a converged environment
  • Technical documentation, communication and process skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience engaging stakeholders and customers to understand needs, deliver solutions, manage expectations, and maintain an ongoing relationship
  • Ability to obtain SF-85 Public Trust Clearance Level
  • US Citizenship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to the Harvester and Rancher ecosystem.
  • Experience in regulated or enterprise environments (e.g., government, aviation, or safety-critical systems).
  • Monitoring and operational awareness sufficient to support readiness, validation, and post-migration review activities.
  • Vendor and integrator interaction experience in a technical coordination or support role.
  • Experience with Java, Python, and scripting languages at a familiarity or integration-support level.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and hybrid or multi-environment integration concepts.
  • Knowledge of air traffic control systems, general aviation, and/or flight services.
  • Practical knowledge of FAA/DoD systems, technical policies, standards and orders.
