Description and Requirements

We are hiring an intern to join our growing AI Ecosystem team. This is a hybrid position, so onsite work is required 3 days/week. This role can be based in Chicago, IL or Morrisville, NC. The start date will be January or February 2026.

We are looking for developer-minded interns to help build proof-of-concept (PoC) integrations between Lenovo's AI orchestration platform and technology partners. This role is hands-on and engineering-focused: you will develop agent workflows, integrate tools and APIs, prototype AI-enabled applications, and optimize solutions across devices (PC, tablet, mobile).

Responsibilities:

AI Systems & Application Development

  • Build and test components of AI-driven applications and orchestration tools.
  • Implement workflows connecting agents, tools, APIs, and partner systems.
  • Develop prototypes demonstrating end-to-end AI use cases.

Agent & Workflow Engineering

  • Design and implement intelligent agents using frameworks like LangGraph, Autogen, or in-house agent runtimes.
  • Create automation pipelines with prompt engineering, memory/context design, and tool invocation logic.
  • Debug agent behavior and improve reliability and determinism of workflows.

Integration & PoC Development with Partners

  • Integrate external partner APIs, models, or data sources into our orchestration platform.
  • Develop PoCs showing how Lenovo devices and partner ecosystems can work together.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and partner engineers on requirements and technical feasibility.

On-Device Optimization & Testing

  • Evaluate app/agent performance on phones, tablets, and PCs.
  • Optimize latency, concurrency, throughput, and hardware utilization.
  • Work with device capabilities (CPU, GPU, NPU/AI accelerators) to improve efficiency.

Evaluation, Debugging & Quality Assurance

  • Perform functional and performance testing of agents and workflows.
  • Analyze logs, metrics, and error traces to troubleshoot issues.
  • Validate PoC stability, user experience, and real-world usability.

Documentation & Collaboration

  • Maintain clear engineering documentation, API integration notes, and workflow diagrams.
  • Share findings with the broader AI, product, and partner teams.

Qualifications:

Must-Have

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related technical field.
  • Strong interest in building AI-powered applications (not just model training).
  • Proficiency in Python and at least one other language (C++, Java, Kotlin preferred).
  • Familiarity with Linux, Windows, or Android development environments.
  • Understanding of APIs, software architecture, and system integration.
  • Exposure to AI frameworks such as PyTorch, Transformers, LangGraph, or similar.
  • Strong debugging skills and ability to learn new tools quickly.
  • Solid communication and collaboration abilities.

Bonus Points

  • Experience building real applications, bots, agent systems, or automation workflows.
  • Familiarity with vector databases, RAG, or knowledge management systems.
  • Experience optimizing mobile/desktop apps (performance, memory, concurrency).
  • Contributions to open-source projects, hackathons, or tech competitions.
  • Experience integrating external APIs or cloud services.

The salary range budgeted for this position is $33 - $44 per hour and is based on years of educational experience.
