What you will do

Under general direction, provides management of assigned development team to a high utilization for secured portfolios up to $30M. Leads professional development, adherence to the Solutions best business practices, managing & mentoring of the design / development team, achieving BBP metrics around bundle size increase, sales cycle time reduction, reduction in development costs, as well as improvement in secured margins. Establishes team objectives and manages team efforts to achieve assigned productivity, volume and gross margin goals. Through effective utilization of the Solutions playbook, accountable for ensuring the timely development of viable projects, including the justification of projects through relevant quantification of value. Responsible for managing the design costs, timeline, assisting in market planning, assessing team-manning levels, participates in developing sales strategies and productivity improvements for the team. Leads the Development and mentoring efforts for assigned team. Works with Solution Design Leader(s) to effectively lead the integration between development, solution development and operations.

How you will do it

  • Manages and develops an assigned Development Team to a high utilization.

  • Reviews elements of the solutions as prepared by the Development Team for quality and adherence to JCI Policies & procedures. Reviews risk analysis for the portfolio of projects.

  • Directs the efforts of the Development Team to provide specific functional and technical expertise, including presentation assistance, estimating, technical and financial analysis, etc. Leads the integration between development, solution development and operations.

  • Implements JCI's standardized tools and processes. Establishes, tracks, and reports various performance metrics.

  • Provides team with industry knowledge, and leverages Field applications and best practices. Directs the Team in developing and maintaining competitively advantaged "Best Practices", analyses, current competitive information and profiles, and effective presentations and proposals.

  • Provides Field and customer feedback to Program Development leadership or Marketing for new offerings and existing offering enhancements. Provides similar information to Global Learning Services (GLS) for product training needs.

  • Ensures that the workload is properly allocated within the team and provides support for peak workload. Reviews manpower levels, providing manpower forecasts and plans. Supports other geographic areas by sharing resources.

  • Responsible for attracting, retaining and developing Development Team members. Sets goals and objectives for individual team members consistent with the goals and objectives of the Program Development organization. Provides regular performance feedback and conducts formal annual performance appraisals.

  • Responsible for representing Johnson Controls, Inc. in local community and state organizations, i.e. AEE.

  • Responsible for remaining current with engineering standards and practices.

  • Responsible for the promotion of and adherence to JCI safety policies.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

What we look for

Bachelor's degree in engineering, business or a related field, MBA or other appropriate graduate degree desirable. Requires five or more years of development engineering or selling building-related systems or services. Experience managing teams of 7-10 people desirable. Registered Professional Engineer, Masters in Business Administration, or Advanced Engineering degree highly recommended. Mastery of at least 50 facility improvement measures (FIM's) required. Proven leadership skills and experience in managing a technical team requiring multi-project management skills. Strong process orientation and development skills with the ability to motivate subordinates. Strong planning and organization skills. Experience in recruiting and developing people. Previous exposure to facility operations and cost accounting desirable. Excellent business analysis capabilities. Strong Project Management skills are necessary. Formal report writing experience, and excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary. Possesses solid working knowledge of common computer applications (e.g., MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint, etc.). Travel approximately 50%.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $140,600 - $211,300 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
