An advanced-level position for individuals with 3-6 years of experience in lighting design. Applies advanced concepts and develops new design solutions for large projects. Responsible for administering all phases of projects from proposal development through construction completion. Primary responsibility for budgeting, scheduling, planning, design, specifications, and working drawings on a given project with authority to direct, control, and monitor all activities.


Specific Competencies


Design Complexity:


* Able to apply advanced concepts and solve difficult problems independently.


* Able to develop medium and complex reports and troubleshoot operating systems.


* Develop specifications involving medium and complex projects.


* Perform lighting calculations, analysis, and rendering studies and use results to inform project decisions.


* Document lighting layouts in Revit and/or CADD.


* Assist in lighting mock-ups and design presentations.


* Complete training on assigned tasks.


* Work independently to support design presentation and construction documentation production for architectural lighting design projects. Take responsibility for lighting calculations, energy, and economic calculations, and building certification compliance credits.


* Provides technical assistance on various design, installation, and integration issues related to creating innovative and inspiring state-of-the-art lighting designs, developing luminaire and control specifics.


* Supervise junior lighting designers as needed.


Construction Administration: This position reviews submittals and responds to contractor inquiries and requests for clarification during construction. It also produces meeting reports and punch lists.


Management Skills: Demonstrated consistent ability to manage multiple large-size projects involving other design staff. Effectively monitors and manages project budgets. Provides direction to Designers. Mentors less experienced designers.


Other Duties:


* May involve out-of-town travel for project work or site visits.


* Support marketing efforts.


Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, excellent presentation skills, strong skill using design software (i.e., Agi32 or similar lighting software, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Revit, InDesign, Sketchup, etc.), Newforma.

Experience


4-5 years of lighting design and/or project management experience managing long-term projects.


Salary Range: $97,700 - $130,000 (depending on experience)


Certification & Licensures


* Working knowledge of energy codes.


* Lighting Certified (LC) through NCQLP


* Professional Society involvement and/or industry leadership.


Education


Bachelor's or Master's degree in Lighting Design, Management or a closely related discipline.
