What to Expect
The Drive Systems Engineering team is seeking a skilled Requirements Engineer to focus on drive units, including motors, gearboxes, inverters (power electronics), and structural components, for Tesla's innovative electric vehicles. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, document, and manage requirements that ensure high-performance, reliable drive systems. Expect to work in a fast-paced environment where you'll bridge stakeholder needs with technical specifications, contributing to products like next-generation vehicles and trucks. This role involves analyzing system interactions, validating requirements through testing, and driving continuous improvement in drive system functionalities. You'll architect requirement structures, improve documentation and validation processes, and facilitate clear workflows to accelerate development and minimize rework.

What You'll Do
  • Elicit, document, and manage requirements for drive systems including motors, gearboxes, inverters, and structural elements

  • Architect requirement structures and traceability for current and future drive unit programs

  • Develop and maintain tools like Polarion pages and requirements validation tools for organized requirement tracking and validation

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to capture stakeholder approvals and align on key metrics such as duty cycles

  • Conduct risk assessments, identify potential issues, and implement streamlined workflows to prevent mid-program changes

  • Lead requirements reviews and updates to ensure 100% capture and justification before production phases

  • Support data analytics and metrics tracking for subsystems like inverters, motors, and gearboxes

  • Facilitate communication with external partners on drive system components and orders

  • Contribute to process improvements, such as billing and documentation for collaborative projects


What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalentexperience

  • Strong experience in requirements management tools like Polarion or Jira

  • Expertise in automotive drive systems, including motors, gearboxes and power electronics a plus

  • Proficiency in validation and verification processes for system requirements

  • Ability to architect structured workflows and trackers for efficient team collaboration

  • Experience with data analysis and metrics tracking for engineering subsystems

  • Excellent communication skills for cross-functional stakeholder alignment

  • Knowledge of simulation and modeling tools like MATLAB/Simulink a plus

  • Proven track record in identifying and resolving operational discrepancies in engineering projects

    Expected Compensation
    $112,000 - $168,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
