Purpose

The Director of Residential Facilities Operations provides leadership and oversight for University Housing and Dining (UHD) facilities operations, including maintenance, security, and building services teams. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this position supervises managers and indirectly oversees approximately two hundred and one staff members who ensure a well maintained, secure, and sanitary home for over 9,000 residents. The Director of Residential Facilities Operations supports strategic planning, budget management and capital project execution while driving operational excellence and fostering collaboration across all facilities functions.

Responsibilities
  • Manage all University Housing and Dining (UHD) maintenance, security, & building services operations. Coordinate work, develop preventive maintenance plans, schedules, and set standards and procedures for staff in all areas. Ensure quality, customer service, safety, and security concerns are immediately and appropriately addressed. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize efficiency, resident, dining and customer satisfaction.

  • Lead maintenance projects and support in all capital construction projects. Review and approve plans and specifications, coordinate work with contractors, review and make recommendations on change order scope and pricing, inspect and approve work.Collaborate and provide timely project updates to the Executive Director of Residential Facilities.

  • Ensure compliance with UHD and university polices, by actively monitoring operations, enforcing standards, and addressing performance concerns with fairness and consistency. Provide ongoing coaching and mentorship to strengthen team performance, engagement, and accountability. Approve time sheets, and ensure required administrative documentation is timely and accurate. Promote professional development by encouraging staff to attend training and workshops to enhance their knowledge and skills that are in line with job duties.Build leadership capacity within the team.

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director on fiscal management and long-range planning to align resources with departmental goals. Approve and review purchases, manage service contracts, and evaluate estimates. Work with Executive Director in preparing fiscal budget.

  • Communicate professionally with staff, students, supervisors, vendors and UT departments. Respond to e-mails and all other items requested promptly. Collaborate and coordinate with staff in other departments as needed to address maintenance, security, or building service's needs. Coordinate with UHD Marketing and Communications to deliver timely updates regarding maintenance and project activities with residents and parents. Represent UHD Facilities in campus committees and emergency planning efforts.

  • Prepare and coordinate the campus Residential Facilities Assessment efforts. Serve in the absence of the Executive Director when required. Ensure continuity of leadership and decision-making during absences. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field

  • Ten years of progressive experience in leadership and management for facility operations and building maintenance.

  • Ten years of progressive experience in facilities operations and maintenance in a university, multi-campus site and/or multi-building site.

  • Experience with safety programs and compliance.

  • Experience with budget management for operational and/or capital projects.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Fifteen or more years of progressive experience in leadership and management for facility operations and building maintenance.

  • Fifteen or more years of progressive experience in facilities operations and maintenance in a university, multi-campus site and/or multi-building site.

  • Experience in maintaining food service equipment.

  • Experience working at the University of Texas of Austin or a similar size institution.

  • Experience working in combined areas of facilities maintenance and custodial services.

  • Project Management Certification (PMP).

  • Certified Educational Facilities Professional credential (CEFP) from APPA.

  • Possess a working familiarity with the application of APPA standards in an institutional environment.

  • Knowledge of the latest technologies in custodial products and equipment.

  • Evidence of strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Salary Range

$125,000+ depending on qualifications

Work Shift
  • Monday - Friday 7:00AM - 4:30PM, hours and days may vary based on business needs.
