Position Summary

The Director of New Media, Football provides advanced-level leadership, strategy, and execution for all football-related digital and new media initiatives in support of recruiting, brand visibility, and program objectives. The incumbent is responsible for developing, directing, and overseeing comprehensive multimedia and digital communication strategies, including graphics, photography, and social media content, aligned with UCLA Athletics and UCLA Football brand standards. This position operates with a high degree of autonomy and professional judgment, serving as a subject matter expert in digital communications and new media. The role requires independent decision-making on complex projects, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to translate programmatic goals into innovative digital content strategies. The incumbent must adhere to and comply with all University, Conference, NCAA, and departmental rules and regulations, including applicable media rights restrictions. The Director of New Media, Football reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer, Chief of Staff for Football, with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Assistant Athletics Director, Creative Content, Social Media & Video Operations. The incumbent works independently under general direction, exercising a high degree of discretion and professional judgment in planning, prioritizing, and executing work. This position provides direct supervision and functional leadership to three (3) Creative Content Producers and serves as the primary point of oversight for football-related digital and new media operations.

Qualifications

  • Progressive professional experience in digital comms, social media strategy, multimedia content creation, or related fields. (Required)
  • Demonstrated experience leading or directing comprehensive digital strategies, preferably within collegiate or professional athletics. (Required)
  • Experience overseeing complex social media operations and high-volume content production. (Required)
  • Experience using digital analytics and social media measurement platforms. (Preferred)
  • Experience with advanced photography or videography techniques, including drone operation. (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience supporting high-profile athletic programs or football-specific operations. (Preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of digital communications strategy, multimedia storytelling, and social media best practices. (Required)
  • Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud and digital media production tools. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex projects and competing priorities; demonstrated responsibility for advanced projects and independent decision-making. (Required)
  • Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and discretion in high-visibility, time-sensitive situations. (Required)
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to interpret performance metrics and translate data into strategic recommendations. (Required)
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including copywriting and editorial judgment. (Required)
  • Ability to provide functional leadership and creative direction to collaborators and partners. (Required)
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, and execute long-term initiatives. (Required)
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment. (Required)

  • Ability to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and limited travel as required. (Preferred)

  • Bachelor's Degree Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, graphic design, or a related field. (Required)
