Job Overview

The Ophthalmology Eye Clinic Education Coordinator is responsible for the management and administration of the department's educational needs. The Education Program Coordinator develops and maintains the educational quality of the training program and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and other regulatory requirements. The Education coordinator will work closely with the department's Associate Clinical Manager and Manager. The Education Coordinator has obtained a level of proficiency, competency and knowledge in the field of ophthalmology; provides instruction and orientation of new employees, physicians, fellows, students and preceptors; possesses a deep understanding on ophthalmology techniques and a comprehension of the eye's anatomy and physiology.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all the following essential functions. These examples do not include all the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

  1. Manages the planning, developing, and implementing of the technician orientation program as well as quality improvement projects related to the program.

  2. Ensures Professional Development and competency of ophthalmic clinical staff. Ensures adequate resources and equitable distribution of work and problem-solving to optimize workflow.

  3. Performs Clinical tech competencies.

  4. Update staff on clinical issues and practice theory and procedures

  5. Develops Orientation Calendar, orients new clinical employees, facilitates educational programs, direct patient care activities and assist with onboarding of ophthalmology staff.

  6. Assesses Ophthalmic Technician educational needs.
  7. Collaborates and direct to development goals and objectives for unit education programs develops and updates clinical policies and procedures as assigned by practice manager or directors.

  8. Manage training site/time distribution Maintaining various sensitive documents pertaining to accreditation and regulatory compliance

  9. Assists Clinical Manager with designing, coordinating, facilitating, onboarding and orientation program for unlicensed team members.

  10. Evaluates orientation and onboarding experiences to ensure newly hired team members are prepared to practice safely and independently.

  11. Mentors, develops, and evaluates new hires and preceptors to enhance learning experiences for all new hires.

  12. Collaborative Partnerships:

    1. Demonstrates knowledge of effective communication principles and promotes communication among disciplines.

    2. Responds to diversity by recognizing, assessing, and adapting the nature of working relationships with other professionals and populations. Identifies and mitigates deterrents to collaboration.

    3. Participates in shared decision making, effective teamwork, and recognition of team and individual contributions. Collaborates with extraprofessional and other stakeholders to ensure educational programs are aligned with organizational goals and strategic plan

    4. Facilitates learning outcomes through innovative partnerships.

    5. Demonstrates skillful guidance and teaching of students and team members to advance the care of patients, families, and the profession of Ophthalmology

    6. Supports quality improvement standards; regulatory standards; patient safety standards; error prevention tools, methodologies, technologies, and resources.

    7. Participates and mentors' others in the development, implementation, and evaluation of departmental, divisional, and organizational goals to include research and the quality improvement/research process to improve patient outcomes.

    8. Demonstrates leadership through team building, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills to build partnerships across the system.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent

  • Experience: 5 years of clinical pediatric ophthalmology experience and/or previous educator experience

  • Equivalency:

  • Certification(s): BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire, Certified Ophthalmic Assistant, Certified Ophthalmic Technician or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technician required

    Salary Information
    Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience. Hourly Range: $28.61 to $42.92
