Early Childhood Education Faculty

Primary Function: Tenure-track teaching faculty position in Early Childhood Education (ECE) beginning in the Fall 2026 semester. The primary responsibility is to teach first- and second-year early childhood education courses on both the Bethlehem and Pocono campuses, as well as online and select off-campus sites. The teaching load is 15 credits per semester for a total of 30 credits per academic year. In addition to serving as a core ECE faculty member, the successful candidate will provide leadership as the College adapts to changing teacher credentialing requirements in Pennsylvania and nationally. This includes ensuring that curriculum, field experiences, and student support remain aligned with evolving state expectations and workforce needs and strengthening the College's teacher education pipeline initiatives.

Responsibilities: In addition to teaching, all faculty members are expected to engage in student advising, substantive college service, and professional growth activity every year. The successful candidate must be prepared to integrate technology and multiple instructional techniques into their teaching at NCC.

Additionally, the successful candidate will:

* Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and dispositions that support a learner-centered pedagogy

* Oversee and maintain curriculum, course materials, and academic assessment projects

* Lead efforts to align the ECE/teacher education curriculum with emerging teacher credential changes and state certification pathways

* Model excellence in teaching for our students

* Strengthen, build, and support teacher education student pipelines in collaboration with school districts and community partners

* Comply with all provisions as noted in the Contract with Local #3579 of the American Federation of Teachers

Organizational Relationships: (1) Be responsible to the appropriate school dean for performance of assigned responsibilities. (2) Work in close concert with program director when appropriate. (3) Work cooperatively with members of the faculty and administrative team. (4) Relate role to College goals and mission attainment.

Performance Standards: Performance in this position is considered satisfactory in accordance with evaluation procedures specified in the current faculty bargaining unit negotiated agreement and covers teaching, college service, and professional growth.

Qualifications: (1) Education: A Master's degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a closely related field with a focus on early childhood is required; Ed.D or Ph.D. preferred. (2) Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: (a) Knowledge of all areas of early and elementary, family and student perspective, and the ability to teach across multiple formats (online and face-to-face) utilizing the universal design for learning (UDL) framework; (b) Ability to meet the needs of community college students and the regional workforce; (c) Experience working with students from diverse cultural and learning backgrounds; (d) Current knowledge of academic assessment practices; (e) Understanding of current and emerging teacher credential requirements, and demonstrated ability to adapt curriculum and student pathways accordingly; (f) Willingness to collaborate with colleagues, school districts, and community partners is foundational to the position. (3) Experience: a minimum of three years teaching in the K to 6 environment, as well as teaching at the higher education level, preferably at community colleges.
