Why this role matters

What you'll own
Build and run a pragmatic, risk-based export compliance program-policies, procedures, controls, and KPIs-that aligns with both business needs and U.S. government requirements.
Serve as the in-house export control expert: classify products, software, and technology, and advise engineering and product teams on ECCNs and USML categories.
Prepare, submit, and shepherd export license applications, Technical Assistance Agreements (TAAs), and other authorizations with BIS (Commerce) and DDTC (State).
Lead restricted party screening and customer/enduser due diligence to enforce sanctions and embargoes, and to reduce business friction.
Drive internal assessments and support external audits-identify gaps, implement corrective actions, and report outcomes to leadership.
Translate complex rules into practical guidance: deliver role-specific training for Sales, Engineering, Logistics, and Supply Chain.
Monitor regulatory change and industry trends; proactively brief stakeholders on impacts and recommended actions.
Maintain accurate, audit-ready export records and retention practices.
Who you are
Several years of hands-on experience in U.S. export compliance, ideally in technology, telecom, or semiconductor sectors.
Deep familiarity classifying hardware, software, and tech under Category 5, Part 2 (CCL), including ECCNs 5A002, 5D002, 5A992, and 5D992.
Comfortable interpreting technical specs (e.g., key lengths, cryptographic protocols) to determine "strong encryption" status.
Knowledgeable about the Cryptography Note (Note 3) and exclusions/mass-market treatments for ancillary cryptography.
Strong expertise in EAR, OFAC sanctions, anti-boycott rules, and working knowledge of ITAR.
Bachelor's degree required; CUSECO or similar certification is a plus.
Excellent analytical skills and a proven ability to simplify complex regulatory topics for non-experts.
Collaborative communicator who partners effectively across engineering, product, sales, and operations.
Experience with export compliance systems (SAP GTS, SNAPR, OCR) and proficient with Microsoft Office.
