Position Summary

The mission of the Asian American Pacific Islander
Resource Center (AAPIRC)
is to build a sense of belonging and provide
culturally relevant Asian American Pacific Islander programming for all students
at the University of New Mexico.
AAPIRC is seeking a welcoming, energetic, and detail-oriented Student Engagement
Leader
to join a team committed to positively impacting the overall education
experience and holistic development of the UNM student community. The Student Engagement
Leader is responsible for assisting with the management of the AAPIRC
reception/entry/multi-use areas and supporting the professional staff with
projects. This position is the first point of contact for AAPIRC visitors on a
daily basis including students, staff, and community members. The ideal
candidate would demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: Interpersonal Engagement
and Public Speaking, Customer & Student Service, Event Coordination
Assistance, Campus Resources Knowledge, Computer Skills, Social Media Content
Development.

This position requires in-person work at the Asian American Pacific
Islander Resource Center.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Create a welcoming, fun, and professional environment for students and visitors.
  2. General office duties including, but not limited to: managing the reception area and student multi-use spaces, appropriately directing phone calls, scheduling appointments, and providing program information and tours of the department.
  3. Assist with the development and creation of flyers, posters, and other marketing materials.
  4. Assist and participate in the planning & implementation of all AAPIRC programs, workshops, and events.
  5. Represent the department at campus tabling events and school/community visits.
  6. Assist with department data collection projects, including tasks associated with managing and archiving AAPIRC materials and files.

Qualifications

Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM-Main Campus, have a
minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA, enrollment in at least half-time (6-credit hours)
for the Spring 2026 semester (Audit hours do not count) and, if Work Study
eligible, must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.

  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills and an established record of providing superior customer service is critical to the position
  • Professional attitude and character: punctual, responsible, reliable, and proactive
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions/procedures and work both independently and as a team member
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadline and time constraint assignments
  • Competency utilizing Adobe Creative applications (Illustrator, lnDesign, Adobe Express, and Photoshop), Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook), and Internet Navigation is required
  • Display commitment to understanding and honoring the confidentiality of student records and information
  • Exhibit positive work ethic, initiative, flexibility, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn new skills through training guided by the AAPIRC staff and leadership
  • Availability to work 20-25 hours per week, dependent on department needs. Additional assignments and work hours may be assigned. Continued employment through the Summer 2026 term and beyond will be determined through the department performance evaluation process.
  • Applicants that can commit to the Student Engagement Leader position for a minimum of one year are highly desirable.
