Job Summary

Under direct supervision of the Director for the Center for Academic Success (CfAS) the Sr coordinator for reading & learning performs a myriad of duties related to the administration, curriculum, and instruction at all FIU campuses learning centers. Works in a team environment within the constructs of the CfAS as well as with various academic units and academic support departments across the FIU community.

  • Works in collaboration with the Director in maintaining the organizational and instructional (programmatic) operations of the CfAS: University Learning Center (all FIU campuses).
  • Manages and have oversight of the daily activities related to the functions, operations, and services provided by the CfAS at all FIU campuses, e.g. recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating tutors in the Reading & Learning Program.
  • Practices identify strategies for assessing the reading and learning needs of students.
  • Designs and implement reading and study skills resources and workshops.
  • Assists with the creation, development, and implementation of academic support initiatives that expands the CfAS and collaborates with university departments.
  • Designs, develops, and conducts supplemental instruction via Canvas for fully online students
  • Oversees and develops CfAS partnership programs and initiatives for liaison activities with FIU Online
  • Develops individual learning plans for "at-risk" and special needs students. Provides tutoring services/guidance to dual-enrollment students.
  • Assists in the development, training, and administration of CfAS tutor scheduling platform(s), e.g. TracCloud, High Point/PSN 2.0
  • Contributes to the administration and budget management of the Reading & Learning Program in the CfAS: University Learning Center (all FIU campuses).
  • Collaborates with university-wide administration, faculty, and academic councils/committees (all FIU campuses). Represents the CfAS on university and SUS committees.
  • Assists with the planning, coordination, and implementation of the tutor training program.
  • Assists with the oversight of the subject-specific tutoring via individual, small group, and study hall instruction (all FIU campuses).
  • Assists with the annual CfAS Symposium.
  • Contributes to the maintenance of the CfAS membership and collaboration with professional organizations, e.g. Florida College Learning Center Association (FCLCA), College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA), National Association for Developmental Education (NADE), International Literacy Association (ILA), etc.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities.
  • Conducts data collection and analysis for CfAS reading and online programs as needed, contributing to the development of accurate and insightful reports and presentations.
  • Participates in the interviews, recruitment and development efforts for all CfAS administrative/staff positions and provides recommendations to the CfAS Director.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of appropriate experience, or Master's degree and one (1) year of appropriate experience.


Desired Qualifications
  • Degree in Literacy Education, Developmental Education with a focus in reading and/or learning strategies, or Reading K-12 education.
  • Master's Degree or currently attending graduate school.
  • Knowledge of current trends in secondary and post-secondary education.
  • Ability to incorporate pedagogically sound literacy practices to initiatives dedicated to academic success.
