Job Summary

The Center for Internet Augmented Research & Assessment (CIARA) operates a network infrastructure that connects more than 1,500+ institutions in the U.S. and Latin America to the rest of the world. This network infrastructure is based on a new paradigm referred to as Software-Defined Networking (SDN). The Research Analyst will provide assistance to the Division of Information Technology's Center for Internet Augmented Research and Assessment (CIARA) by conducting grants and contracts research activities. Collects collects and analyzes data for ongoing and upcoming research projects, facilitating outreach initiatives to support students, faculty, and scientists, and contributing to various CIARA projects. Coordinates the daily operations of one or more projects, overseeing data collection, and generating reports.

  • Assists with the day-to-day research activities of one or more CIARA research projects.
  • Assists with outreach activities for CIARA's research projects including helping to recruit research participants and administering intake and follow-up information gathering for assessments.
  • Assists the IT Assistant Director with data analysis for CIARA research projects. Assist with the preparation and dissemination of surveys to participants and reports the findings.
  • Assists the IT Assistant Director with project planning and coordination of special events such as workshops and conferences. Assists with travel logistics as needed.
  • Assists with the designs and maintains CIARA's digital media presence as required, including websites, social media, and newsletters.

  • Assists the IT Assistant Director to oversee, organize, and prepares the data collection for network related projects. Collects data and analyzes research results. Provides technical support to research project(s).
  • Assists the IT Assistant Director, PI and Co-PIs by collaborating with CIARA's Network Engineering Team for the documentation required for quarterly, annual, and final NSF project reports.
  • Responsible for managing CIARA's travel operations, including standard and vicinity travel requests, travel P-Card transactions, and coordination of travel-related arrangements. The role prepares and submits travel authorizations, assists with documentation requirements, and ensures all travel requests and expense reports comply with institutional and sponsor guidelines.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
  • Responsible for managing CIARA's travel operations, including standard and vicinity travel requests, travel P-Card transactions, and coordination of travel-related arrangements. The role prepares and submits travel authorizations, assists with documentation requirements, and ensures all travel requests and expense reports comply with institutional and sponsor guidelines.
  • Maintains travel records and tracking systems such as the CIARA Travel Projection Sheet and project-specific travel breakdowns. It ensures accuracy and policy adherence in processing travel reimbursements, communicates with travelers to resolve discrepancies, and monitors travel expenditures against budgets. Provides guidance on travel procedures and maintains training resources to support compliance and audit readiness


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
