Be a part of our mission to accelerate the world's shift to sustainable energy. As a member of the Tesla Energy Sales Engineering team, you will be at the forefront of innovation, serving as a key engineer in Tesla's storage technology, project development, and technical negotiations. Your role will be pivotal in driving the successful design and implementation of stationary battery energy storage systems on electric grids spanning the Americas, stretching from the northern reaches of Canada to the southern tip of Chile.

As a Tesla Energy Sr. Sales Engineer,you'llhave deep knowledge of Tesla Energy's products (hardware likeMegablock; software likePowerhub; and services like Augmentation) and their technical interdependencies.You'llexcel in disciplines related to stationary battery storage, including power systems, cyber security, fire safety, and project design. Your role includes independent market entry (assessments, policy reviews), independent top-of-funnel engineering (pitches, intakes, analyses), independent middle-of-funnel engineering (proposals, RFPs, configurations), and independent bottom-of-funnel engineering (negotiations, contracting).You'llwork directly with customers, their stakeholders (utilities, regulators), and Tesla teams across sales, engineering, product, operations, and legal. The team is open to considering candidates at various levels of experience.

This role demands a multi-disciplinary mindset, requiring deepexpertisein electrical, mechanical, and industrial engineering fundamentals, coupled with commercial and regulatory experience. Each member of the teampossessesa strong drive and a collaborative spirit to support Tesla and its customers in navigating an ever-evolving technological landscape.


What You'll Do
  • Have a deep understanding of Tesla Energy's product offerings, their technical details, and their interdependencies: Hardware (e.g., Megablock, Megapack, Powerpack), Software (e.g., Powerhub, Autobidder, Opticaster) and Service (e.g., Commissioning, Maintenance, Augmentation)
  • Have a strong command of some technical disciplines associated with stationary battery energy storage systems, including auxiliary loads, control archetypes, cybersecurity requirements, extreme climates, fire safety, noise emissions, power systems, project design, and system augmentation
  • Perform full market entry scope independently with minimal supervision, including market assessments, policy reviews, and interconnection evaluations
  • Perform full top-of-funnel engineering scope independently, including product pitches, project intakes, initial configurations and technoeconomic analyses
  • Perform full middle-of-funnel engineering scope independently, including proposal generation, RFP responses, single-line-diagram reviews, sequence-of-operations reviews, division-of-responsibility reviews, final configurations, system modelling, and shortlist dialogues
  • Perform full bottom-of-funnel engineering scope with minimal supervision, including Technical negotiations, technical contracting and project hand-offs
  • Collaborate with customers and their stakeholders (e.g., utilities, regulators, AHJs, financers, insurers)
  • Work with Tesla teams, including product management, business development, account management, project management, project engineering, application engineering, asset management, product engineering, business operations, and legal counsel
  • Mentor junior members of the Sales Engineering team

What You'll Bring
  • Degree inEngineering in areas of Electrical Engineering (preferred), Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Engineering Management with Energy specialization, Management Science and Engineering with Energy specialization, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Five (5) to ten (10) years of work experience in the energy industry
  • Knowledge of battery systems, power conversion, and grid systems
  • Familiarity with financial analyses, electricity markets, and energy policy
  • Experience in customer interfacing, technical negotiations, and technical contracting
  • Ability to execute many projects and tasks in parallel
  • Capability to communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders in English (professional fluency); additional languages like Spanish or Portuguese are a plus

    Expected Compensation
    $117,680 - $228,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
