We are looking for a PrincipalSoftware Engineer to join our team!

The Foundations Performance Engineering Team builds the systems and tools that make Microsoft's Power Platform and Dataverse fast, reliable, and cost-efficient at planetary scale. We design the performance architecture that underpins every customer scenario - from low-latency APIs to large-scale AI workloads. Our engineers specialize in distributed systems optimization, telemetry and workload management, and deep runtime analysis across Service Fabric and AKS. You will join a highly skilled team that thrives on solving complex scalability challenges, driving measurable capacity gains, and ensuring that millions of users experience a seamless, high-performance platform every day.

• Lead the design and implementationofmulti-tenant, enterprise class Storage and Analytics platform.
• Build solutions, help create tools, help automate issue detection and diagnosis, to enable customers or support to self-resolve the issues.
• Identifyemerging trends or re-occurring escalation scenarios and drive engineering opportunities to mitigate and/oreliminatethem. This can include a range of potential work item categories; such as self-healing mechanisms, self-serve, transparency, automation, and/or increasing the capabilities for Azure support.
• Contribute to product improvements by filing impactful bugs, design change requests, and fix and ship them to production, preventing customers from beingimpacted.
• Able to work well in challenging situations whileexhibitingflexibility and the ability to tolerate and manage through ambiguity and uncertainty.
• Beyond technical and product focus, this role requires the ability to frame and communicate issues and recommendations clearly and concisely, show exceptional attention to detail, anddemonstratethe ability to build broad relationships with the right influencers,leveragingthose relationships to impact key business results.

Required qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
• 6+ years technical engineering experience designing large scale, distributed systems.

Other Requirements:Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
• 4+ years experience working with container technologies across both Windows and Linux environments, including containerization, orchestration, and deployment best practices.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
