Primary Purpose of the Organization:
The Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Research, and Planning conducts ongoing, university-wide evaluative processes to measure achievements and outcomes related to the institution's mission and strategic priorities. The overall goal is to determine whether the institution's units and departments are effectively addressing the institution's mission and priorities through various assessments. Additionally, the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Research, and Planning provides data and information to support leadership in making effective and evidence-based decisions. Data is also provided to the System Office, SACSCOC, and other critical reporting agencies. The Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Research, and Planning is also primarily responsible for maintaining the university's accreditation status through the regional accreditor, SACSCOC. Institutional Effectiveness is central to the Principles of Accreditation of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges ( SACSCOC) as well as the other regional accreditation agencies in the United States.
The Broad Focus Areas of the Office are as follows:
Continuous Improvement:
Develop an effective institutional process for ongoing planning and evaluation, with the goal of enhancing the effectiveness of meeting the mission, achieving the University's vision, and delivering a higher-quality experience for all institutional stakeholders.
Strengthen Assessment Strategies:
Implement a systematic process for gathering and interpreting information relevant to our objectives, initiatives, priorities, and operations, to evaluate performance, the effective use of resources, and make improvements.
Develop a Plan for Data/ Information Dissemination:
Provide timely and accurate information/data to leadership and stakeholders to facilitate evidence-based decision-making, which is essential for institutional sustainability.
Ensure Data Integrity:
Streamline the data gathering process and ensure data integrity.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Associate Vice Chancellor for Institutional Effectiveness Research and Planning supervises all assessment and accreditation activities and serves as SACSCOC Liaison. This position is responsible for working collaboratively with all University stakeholders, including administrative units, faculty, staff, and students for the collection, analysis, interpretation, and application of institutional data in support of the University's strategic priorities, internal planning, data needs, and external reporting. Additionally, the AVC for Institutional Effectiveness Research and Planningprovides leadership in managing institution-wide data and analytical requirements, ensuringthe integrity and accuracy of institutional data. In addition, this position also supervises the development, dissemination, analysis, and use of data to inform continuous improvement and ensures timely submission of data to the UNC system, governmental agencies, and other relevant external stakeholders. The AVC for Institutional Effectiveness Research and Planning also serves as the SACSCOC liaison for the institution and is primarily responsible for promoting assessment initiatives that contribute to continuous improvement, as well as ensuring compliance with the standards of SACSCOC and other relevant accrediting bodies, the UNC system, and governmental agencies.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited university with a Master's degree or higher
  • At least five years of progressively responsible administrative or professional analytical experience in higher education
  • Some experience in guiding institutions in compliance with SACSCOC standards
  • Proficient in the use of a range of information technology systems
  • Possesses superior written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the demonstrated ability to build a team

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:

  • Knowledge of accreditations processes and standards.
  • Knowledge of best practices in assessment, accreditation, and institutional effectiveness
  • Knowledge of faculty and staff activity reporting systems, faculty and staff analyses, enrollment management, selection of peer institutions, and use of national datasets for postsecondary education research.
  • Proficient in the use of a range of information technology systems, such as SAS SPSS, Oracle and SCT Banner.
  • Possesses superior written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the demonstrated ability to build a team while working effectively with multiple agencies, students, faculty, staff, and administrators.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3 or more years of experience working with institutions in compliance with SACSCOC standards
