Job Purpose

Perform day-to-day operations independently related to analyzing gas capacity requests (GCR) and system operating procedure (SOP). Ability to perform relevant engineering work with minimal direction. Ability to communicate effectively with peers and more experienced engineers. Support all stakeholders like Gas System Operations, Long Term Planning, Instrumentation & Regulation and Field Operations. Provide emergency support as needed.

Key Accountabilities
  • Prepare engineering studies and computerized network analyses utilizing Synergi gas network software to determine the capability of National Grid's US gas infrastructure to deliver gas to its customers under normal, contingency and peak conditions.
  • Perform studies independently of proposed system expansion with consideration given to service reliability, safety, system operation and engineering economics. This includes the preparation of reports covering recommended and alternate plans to satisfy load growth and reliable system operation.
  • Monitor, investigate and analyze the capability of the gas system to meet customer loads. Provide operational assistance and recommendations to Instrumentation & Regulation, Gas Control, and Gas Supply in analyzing peak and contingency conditions. Analyze and monitor the gas distribution system performance to recommend corrective action, identify trends and continuously improve the reliability of the system.
  • Analyze Gas Capacity Requests (GCRs) to determine the ability of the gas system to supply new customer loads. This includes reviewing and providing instructions for main/service sizing and main routing to supply large commercial, industrial and power generation loads. Coordinate required work with other planned system work when practical to maximize the benefits and/or minimize total capital expenditures.
  • Review System Operating Procedures (SOPs) for temperature restrictions and jumper bypass sizing.
  • Ability to lead team members for projects of low to moderate complexity.
  • Provide emergency support for Gas Control and Field Operations, including off-hour (on-call) coverage based on a rotating schedule.
  • Ability to work and build relationships with key stakeholders and with other departments.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline is a minimum requirement.
  • Gas network modelling experience utilizing DNV software Synergi gas is preferred.
  • Proficient in other computer software (MS Office, ArcGIS) is preferred.
  • Able to communicate well with all the stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Ability to coordinate and work on special projects from sponsorship through execution.
  • Knowledge of Federal DOT and State Codes related to the T&D of natural gas as well as applicable industry codes is desirable but not required.
  • Knowledge of safety policy and potential hazards of the gas distribution network.

Downstate NY Salary:$127,000 - $149,000 a year
