POSITION SUMMARY:


The Director, Publications leads AtriCure's global scientific publication strategy, ensuring timely, high-quality dissemination of clinical evidence across peer-reviewed journals, congresses, and regulatory and reimbursement supporting scientific communications. This role is accountable for aligning publications with strategic business priorities, clinical trial and registries, EU MDR post-market evidence and reimbursement priorities, positioning AtriCure as the category leader in arrhythmia ablation, LAA management and pain therapies. This role sits at the intersection of science, regulation, and strategy. As evidence standards rise globally, the Director, Publications ensures that AtriCure's 25-year clinical legacy continues to translate into regulatory confidence, surgeon trust, and durable competitive advantage.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:


Publications



  • Develop and execute the global podium and publications strategy in collaboration with cross functional partner and physician KOLs.
  • Develop publication roadmap based on the publication strategy and aligned to business priorities and regulatory milestones (PMA and International approvals and requirements)
  • Develop and manage the Publications Committee in compliance with ICMJE, GPP, and company SOP and ensure transparent, ethical authorship and data disclosure standards.
  • Collaborate with publication committee, clinical and registry program managers and statistical programmers to ensure accuracy of algorithms for manuscript tables to support the messaging.
  • Drive External Engagement & Scientific Leadership by building and maintaining relationships with key investigators, steering committees, and thought leaders
  • Coordinate publication activities with global congresses (e.g., cardiothoracic surgery, electrophysiology, pain) and represent AtriCure as a scientific leader in publication planning forums and external collaborations
  • Medical writing for AtriCure internal (clinical and pre-clinical) and physician-initiated publications.
  • Guide and manage the efforts of Publications team based on the publication plan and provide mentorship for their professional growth.



Team Leadership & Capability Building



  • Lead and develop a high-performing publications team
  • Establish scalable processes and metrics
  • Mentor cross-functional partners on publication best practices, as needed.



Collaboration with Health Economics and Outcomes Research



  • Serve as SME and liaise with Health Economics and Outcome Research department on designing and publishing studies using larger datasets (e.g. CMS) to advance AtriCure therapies.



Collaboration with Professional Education



  • Support Prof Ed with meeting design, course content, moderating training courses . Assist in developing a best practice guide for patient and assist the perioperative team in developing algorithms and protocols.



Advisory Boards and other functions



  • Collaborate with corporate strategy to identify the areas of high market opportunity and convene physician or HCP advisory boards for further exploring those opportunities and identifying evidence needs.
  • Support with design of new clinical trials or review of ISR designs, as needed.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Advanced degree required (PhD, MD, PharmD, or equivalent biomedical/scientific field)
  • 10+ years of experience in medical publications, clinical research, or medical affairs
  • Proven leadership of global publication strategies in medical devices or biopharma
  • Deep understanding of ICMJE, GPP, EU MDR, and post-market evidence expectations
  • Experience working with clinical trials, registries, and real-world evidence
  • Ability to travel: 30%



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Cardiovascular, cardiothoracic surgery, electrophysiology, or pain therapeutics background
  • Prior people leadership and matrixed global team management
  • Track record of successful investigator-led publications



OTHER REQUIREMENTS:



  • Ability to regularly walk, sit, or stand as needed
  • Ability to occasionally bend and push/pull as needed
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
