Government Affairs Advisor Government Affairs Advisors play a central role in fostering the initiatives of the GAPP group by developing and implementing strategic advocacy plans, analyzing legislative and regulatory developments, and engaging directly with Congress and Administration officials. Advisors are expected to work with a high degree of independence, building and maintaining a strong network of relationships with policymakers, congressional staff, and executive branch officials.
The position requires an understanding of legislative and regulatory processes, the ability to prepare highlevel materials such as congressional testimony, regulatory comments, and correspondence to members and agencies, and skill in advising clients on policy strategies. Advisors are trusted to assist in the development of strategic plans, manage projects with varying degrees of autonomy at the discretion of the project manager, and contribute to both internal and external communications.
More senior advisors are expected to manage projects independently and position themselves to begin building their own client base.
Essential Functions

Lead and coordinate client initiatives, working independently or with team members.
* Develop and implement advocacy strategies, including direct engagement with Congress, Administration officials, and other key stakeholders. * Manage client relationships and oversee execution of deliverables. * Conduct in-depth research and analysis on legislative, regulatory, and political developments; prepare reports, policy briefs, one-pagers, proposals, and other advocacy materials. * Track hearings, legislation, and relevant news; provide timely client updates. * Prepare and manage comments, testimony, and other formal submissions on behalf of clients. * Represent Steptoe and its clients at meetings, webinars, and events with minimal supervision. Minimum Qualification *
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
* 4+ years of legislative or political experience (Capitol Hill or executive branch experience strongly preferred). Success Factors *

* Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment * Ability to work independently and as part of a team, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively * Sound judgment, professionalism, and ability to demonstrate tact and courtesy with colleagues, clients, and external stakeholders * Experience working with federal agencies on policy implementation and/or driving legislation preferred * Proven critical thinking skills and ability to address both big picture strategy and granular detail * Highly flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances * Attention to detail and consistently highquality work product * Strong communication skills - persuasive speaker and clear writer * Ability to perform effectively under tight deadlines and in highpressure situations Work Environment *
Non-smoking work environment
* Available to work in the office 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. at a minimum two days per week * Must be available to work beyond regular hours when needed * Must be able to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality * Must be able to meet deadlines and work under pressure * Must be able to comply with all safety requirements in our workplace The anticipated base salary range for this position is
$165,000. The actual base salary offered will be dependent upon the applicant's experience and qualifications, as well as other job-related factors, including but not limited to, relevant skills, education, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, geographic location.
