SUMMARY:

Reports to the Clinical Manager of Integrative Therapy. Apply manual techniques and adjunctive therapies with the intention of positively affecting the health and well-being of the client. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the adult and geriatric client and adapt their care to the physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Consistently applies the corporate values of respect, honesty and fairness and the constant pursuit of excellence in improving the health status of the people of the region through the provision of customer-friendly, geographically accessible and high-value services within the environment of a comprehensive integrated academic health system. Is responsible for knowing and acting in accordance with the principles of the Brown University Health Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.

Meets, greets, answers questions, and provides an understandable explanation of complementary massage therapy to clients to reduce apprehension. Provides for the safety and comfort of all clients, in accordance with prescribed standards.

Manipulates soft tissue to restore a sense of revitalization and well-being, as well as to enhance functions of those tissues and promote relaxation.

Maintains orderliness, cleanliness and adequate supplies for assigned area.

Maintains quality assurance, observant of hospital and department safety regulations, environmental and infection control, in accordance with established hospital department policies, procedures and objectives.

Maintains client confidentiality at all times.

Performs other related duties, as requested.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Graduate of a program or certified by a school or institution of learning approved by the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA) or equivalent academic or training program.

Successful completion of National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Body Work or the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage.

Licensed by the Rhode Island Department of Health

Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to clients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of 2 years practicing as a licensed massage therapist in a full time or part time capacity.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals, physicians' offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Has direct client contact. Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use safety equipment and protective clothing.

Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day. May lift and position clients and lift supplies up to 50 pounds.

INDEPENDENT ACTION:

Incumbent functions independently within a broad scope of department policies and practices; generally refers specific problems to supervisor only where clarification of department policies and procedures may be required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

None.

Pay Range:

$24.29-$40.07
