Direct the overall maintenance and engineering services in support of Duke University Medical Center's current and long-range projected requirements; assume direct responsibility for the maintenance and engineering support for Duke Clinical or Medical Research buildings, facilities and systems as assigned.

DEPARTMENTAL PREFERENCES

Prior experience in a hospital/healthcare setting required.

Demonstrated supervisory/leadership experience required.

CHFM is a plus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Training - B.S. degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Management or equivalent degree applicable to facility management.

Experience - Requires a minimum of 8 years of related engineering and management experience in a large healthcare organization in facilities management.

Skills - Excellent communication and leadership skills required.

Work Performed




  • Direct the overall maintenance and engineering support for Duke Clinical or Medical Research facilities and systems; establish and maintain a routine and preventive maintenance program for the outlying buildings and research facilities and supporting systems.
  • Coordinate proactive planning for special maintenance, upgrade and renovation projects; monitor the execution, completion and inspection of projects.
  • Consult and collaborate with other departments, administration, contractor support, and vendors in determining building needs for both short- and long-term planning.
  • Coordinate resolution for special maintenance and construction problems and assist user in determining priorities for changes as needed.
  • Review plans, specifications and equipment; inspect facilities and ensure compliance with JCAHO, NFPA, OSHA, AALAC and other state and federal codes and regulations.
  • Manage various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, discipline, firing, performance evaluations, promotions, transfers, training, and scheduling.
