DESCRIPTION

The overall objective of CIHED is to promote and support research for a new understanding of the cultural, environmental, physical, behavioral, and biological causes that contribute to health and education disparities in America. These investigations are likely to result in practical interventions that will allow us to reduce the health and education gaps between ethnic and socioeconomic groups in the United States. In addition, these initiatives will allow us to directly participate in educational and health-related programs within the San Diego area as part of an outreach effort to bring UCSD in proximity to our surrounding community.

Under close supervision, the individual will assist in various research and laboratory activities. The lab assistant will assist with in hands-on, bench research projects under the mentorship of established faculty mentor. The lab assistant is trained and mentored in the development of experimental designs, execution, data collection and presentations. Attend group meetings and journal clubs, and assist with research designed to be published in peer-reviewed publications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and one year of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to prioritize. Ability to work independently and follow through on assignment with minimal direction. Experience in accurate record keeping, with strict attention to detail required to set-up and maintain program files (both in paper and computerized form) for rapid-easily retrieval by self and others.

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with investigators, research assistants, research participants and parents.

  • Ability to understand information provided by PI to effectively communication the information to the appropriate staff, and apply the information to project operations

  • Ability to perform basic laboratory duties.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work variable hours and weekends if needed.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $43,639 - $50,571 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $20.90 - $24.22

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
