Job Description




As a Security Officer - School Reception Desk in Chicago, IL, you will serve and safeguard clients in a range of industries such as Education, and more. As a Front Desk Officer at a dynamic higher education location, you will be the first friendly point of contact for students, faculty, and visitors. You will greet and direct guests, manage access procedures, answer calls, document security-related activity, and communicate quickly with site staff when concerns arise. What You'll Do:

  • Provide customer service to students, staff, faculty, and visitors by carrying out security-related procedures, site-specific policies, and when appropriate, emergency response activities.
  • Staff the front desk post to help monitor access to the location, greet and direct visitors, and support a professional first point of contact.
  • Help manage visitor processing including sign-in procedures, issuing temporary badges when required, and communicating arrivals to designated contacts.
  • Help verify identification, access permissions, and appointments per site policy, and refer access concerns to site leadership and/or Allied Universal supervision.
  • Answer phones, route calls, and share site information as permitted, while maintaining awareness of security-related conditions in the lobby and reception area.
  • Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner, including activating notifications, contacting emergency services when directed, and assisting with evacuation or shelter directions as trained.
  • Monitor alarms, cameras, and/or access control systems as assigned, document unusual activity, and escalate concerns through established channels.
  • Maintain accurate logs and reports such as visitor activity, incident reports, shift pass-down notes, and key or credential accountability when applicable.
  • Help coordinate deliveries, contractors, and service vendors by following check-in procedures, notifying the requesting department, and directing them to approved areas.
  • Support property loss prevention and conduct-related concerns by observing and reporting suspicious behavior, policy violations, and/or unattended items to appropriate personnel.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
  • Allied Universal will consider qualified applications with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable laws.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
  • Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
  • A valid driver's license will be required for driving positions only.
