Overview

Goldbelt Integrated Logistics Services (GbILS) provides four specific areas of expertise-Logistics Engineering, Measurement Sciences, Program Management, and Technical Support-serving the scientific, technical, and engineering needs of clients. Summary:

The Library Technician will be responsible for administrative and reference services, acquisition of library materials, and cataloging. This position will maintain and update Technical Library web sites, manage information resources and services with up-to-date information, tools, and techniques. This position supports the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Rome, NY.


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Administers automated library management system and other auxiliary systems.
  • Manages, researches, analyzes, and evaluates electronic resources.
  • Provide instruction and training to scientists and engineers in database searching.
  • Conduct literature searches for scientists for research projects.
  • Development and cataloging of new resources for the research collection.
  • Select and order new library materials; design and evaluate new library services.
  • Read and review professional library, physical sciences, mathematics, engineering, and computer literature.
  • Create and develop metadata and original cataloging records for new materials.
  • Evaluate the collection for usefulness and currency.
  • Maintenance and design of SharePoint site and interface for the library.
  • Represent the library at professional conferences and meeting; and attend training courses, workshops, symposiums offered by the Special Libraries Association and other library associations.
  • Ensure information resources provided to library users are factually correct, current, and pertinent to projects of the laboratory.
  • Assist patrons with using the public access catalog, indexes, abstracts, and other library reference tools.
  • Conduct routine and immediate database and open literature searches.
  • Manage accountable records for books/periodicals and conduct periodic inventories of the collection.

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Must be proficient in the use of the Online Computer Library Center system for cataloging and interlibrary loan purposes.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Tools (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, Publisher).
  • Must be physically able to stand for long periods and handling recurring activities: bending, couching, stopping, lifting, stretching, and reaching.
  • Must be physically able to frequently lift boxes of up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to reach up to 72 inches with or without the assistance of a step stool.
  • Must possess skill in working with peers and with the public.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma with at least four (4) years of specialized experience in a library that provided specific knowledge of library rules, policies, and procedures for circulation and technical service.
    • Or Associate Degree with at least two (2) years of specialized experience in a library that provided specific knowledge of library rules, policies, and procedures for circulation and technical service.
  • Must have experience or training that demonstrates the ability to perform computer data processing.
  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Must possess or be able to hold a Secret Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree.

Pay and Benefits

The pay for this position is $17.76 hourly.
