About the Department and/or College

The Talent Development team is dedicated to assisting employees perform at their best to succeed in current positions and successfully prepare for future positions. This team oversees employee development programs, reward programs, and recognition programs by conducting instructor-led and online trainings, by developing relationships with departments, and by creating memorable awards ceremonies. We do these things because we believe in welcoming employees into the Texas Tech family and its culture, creating a compliant and educated staff, and recognizing and rewarding employees for their successes, including years of dedicated service.

Major/Essential Functions

As a training specialist, you will play a part in creating an extraordinary place to work where employees know they matter. You will use your expertise to develop departmental and campus-wide training topics such as effective communication skills, time management, delegation, project management, and creating successful teams. You will also facilitate team-building activities, develop seminars, and provide online educational sessions using Teams. You will be instrumental in helping individuals develop professionally and contribute to them becoming lifelong learners. Finally, you will be instrumental in creating moments that matter through several special employee recognition events. You will do this by:

• Assisting with/conducting New Employee Orientation (where you will help employees get off to a great start), leadership series (helping leaders to be successful in establishing and maintaining effective teams), and other professional courses (to include team builders and series training) to meet university goals. Ensure that the setup and audiovisual setup are completed for each training/event.
  
• Communicating with employees and departmental leaders to assist with the organizational development needs. You will encourage and inspire professionals in their continued learning and development, creating a strong workforce to serve students. Develop and maintain campus-wide professional relationships.
  
• Assisting with events such as Length of Service, Distinguished Staff Awards, Front Line Supervisors Conference, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• PowerPoint, Canva, or similar programs.
• Facilitate and present effectively to diverse audiences.
• Manage multiple projects independently while meeting deadlines.
• Produce high-quality, accurate work with strong attention to detail.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in a related field plus three years related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience applying adult learning principles in higher education or similar professional environments.
• Ability to synthesize research and diverse information into learner-centered training programs.

Pay Statement

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan.

M - F 8 am - 5 pm. Travel for occasional developmental trainings / Occasionally arrive early/stay late for trainings.
