| Brief Summary of Work for this Position |
The Department of Economics and Finance within the Cameron School of Business at the University of North Carolina Wilmington seeks applicants for a 9-month, full-time, non-tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor of Finance, starting in August 2026.
This is a non-tenure-track position serving an initial term through May 2027, with the option to renew for one additional year based on need and a satisfactory performance evaluation. This position has an expectation for teaching, research productivity, and service.
Teaching expectation includes 3 courses in Finance each Fall and Spring semester (6 courses total) and some service support to clubs, the department, etc. Courses may include undergraduate principles, upper-level undergraduate courses, and master's-level courses. This position is expected to contribute to the intellectual life of the department and be research-active. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
- A PhD in Finance with a research and/or coursework focus in Finance or in a highly-related field is required.
ABD candidates with a Ph.D. conferred by August 1, 2026, can anticipate an initial appointment as Visiting Assistant Professor.- Selected candidates with a Ph.D. nearly completed (ABD, not conferred by August 1, 2026) can anticipate an initial appointment as Lecturer at a reduced salary for a one-year fixed-term appointment. Degree verification must be provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, and the candidate will be appointed to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.

The Department of Economics and Finance at
UNCW contributes four concentrations (finance, economics, real estate, and fintech) to the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration as well as housing the Bachelor of Arts in Economics Degree and the Master of Science in Finance. In addition, the department actively supports the Master of Business Administration program as well as the International
MBA program, a joint program with international partner schools. The Department actively encourages faculty and student engagement through student clubs in addition to other programs such as Fed Challenge,
CFA Challenge, the student managed investment fund, and honors research projects. The department also prides itself on an improving research portfolio and collaborative work within the department |
