Position Title: Food Service WorkerCompensation: $16.27 - $16.27Department: The AtriumStart Date: 01/30/2026About this opportunity: Ball State University Dining has an opportunity for a Food Service Worker position. This is a full-time, on-campus opportunity.Hours: (Two week) Sunday: Off Monday: 11:30a-8p Tuesday: 11:30a-8p Wednesday: 11:30a-8p Thursday: 11:30a-8p Friday: 8a-4:30p Saturday: Off Sunday: Off Monday: 11:30a-8p Tuesday: 11:30a-8p Wednesday: 11:30a-8p Thursday: 11:30a-8p Friday: 8a-4:30p Saturday: Off What you'll do and what you'll bring: Position Function: Under direction of supervision, perform duties in achieving excellence in customer satisfaction, food quality, service of food, efficiency and productivity, and compliance with safety and sanitation standards,HACCPstandards, Indiana Food Service Code regulations, and rules, policies and procedures of Ball State University. Duties & Responsibilities: 1. Accurately assemble supplies and materials; set up service area and serve food as required. Utilize Ball State standard recipes, menu, food production orders and supervisor's direction; comply with branded concept license and franchise agreements and standards of operation. 2. Exhibit evidence of teamwork and execution of excellent customer service that exceeds customer expectations in such areas including, but not limited to: courtesy, speed of service, sense of urgency, product consistency, demonstrating a passion of excellence, utilizing fun and humor when appropriate, innovation and creativity, and other criteria. Requires the physical ability to lift, grasp, and exert up to 35 pounds of force unassisted. Task requires the visual ability to read numbers, words, etc. Task requires mental ability to receive, comprehend, follow, and provide oral instructions and information, and to read, comprehend, follow, and provide written instructions and information. 3. Hand wash and store pots, pans, and food service equipment. Requires the physical ability to crouch, reach, stand, walk, grasp, feel, push, pull, stoop, climb, finger, keep hands in water for several hours per day, and exert up to 35 pounds of force unassisted. Task requires visual ability to distinguish color, perceive depth, etc. Task requires the ability to use pots, pans, brooms, gloves, small food service equipment, chemical compounds, scratch pads, garbage disposal, water, etc. Employee is exposed to inside environmental conditions, noise, chemicals, steam, heat, etc. Task requires mental ability to receive, comprehend, follow and provide oral instructions and information, and to read, comprehend and follow written instructions, information, chemical labels, thermostats, etc. 4. Clean equipment and work area, maintaining sanitation and safety standards as defined byBSUmanuals, handbooks,HACCPstandards, Indiana Food Code,NRAServSafe, and other industry standards. Maintain a clean and neat work area at all times. 5. Greet and deal with customers with a smile, friendliness, and helpfulness. Communicate customer questions, concerns, and complaints to the supervisor. 6. Set up, operate, and clean dishwashing machinery and auxiliary equipment; move dishware and equipment to proper locations. Assist with laundry program as needed. Requires the physical ability to bend, stoop, crouch, push, pull, grasp, feel, stand for extended periods of time during work shift, and exert up to 35 pounds of force unassisted. Task requires the visual ability to determine cleanliness, perceive depth, etc. Task requires the use of valve handles, garbage disposal, glass/silverware racks, sprayer, gloves, goggles, etc. Employee is exposed to inside environmental conditions, noise, chemicals, steam, extreme heat, etc. Task requires the mental ability to receive, comprehend, follow, and provide oral instructions and information, and to read, comprehend, follow and provide written instructions, information, etc. 7. Clean, prepare, store, and deliver fresh produce. Garnish as required. Utilize Ball State standard recipes, menu, food production orders and supervisor's direction; comply with branded concept license and franchise agreements and standards of operation. Requires the physical ability to grasp, crouch, reach, stand, walk, lift, grasp, feel, and exert up to 35 pounds of force unassisted. Task requires dexterity in arms, hands, and shoulders. Task requires the visual ability to distinguish color, perceive depth, read recipes, analog or digital scales, labels, etc. Employee is exposed to inside environmental conditions, noise, etc. Task requires the mental ability to read and comprehend recipes and related computer forms, use judgment, adapt to short notice changes, and analyze problems. Task requires the ability to receive, comprehend, follow and provide oral instructions and information, and to read, comprehend, follow and provide written instructions and information. 8. Count, measure, weigh, determine, and record amounts of food prepared and/or served. Requires the physical ability to lift, grasp, and exert up to 35 pounds of force unassisted. Task requires the visual ability to read scales, record food amounts, etc. Task requires the ability to operate balance and portion scales, calculator, computer sheets, etc. Employee is exposed to inside environmental conditions, noise, etc. Task requires the mental ability to perform basic math skills, including counting and reading scales. 9. Prepare foods such as (but not limited to) all types of grill items, french fried items, pizza products, deli products, etc., pacing food production to customer demand. Garnish as required. Utilize Ball State standard recipes, menu, food production orders and supervisor's direction; comply with branded concept license and franchise agreements and standards of operation. 10. Obtain, collect, and return materials and supplies from/to their proper place as needed. Requires the physical ability to hear, listen, see, etc. Task requires the visual ability to distinguish color, perceive depth, etc. Employee is exposed to inside working conditions. Task requires the mental and physical ability to communicate, achieve results through subordinates, be precise, etc. Task requires employee to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. Task requires the mental ability to read labels, write grocery and equipment lists, etc. 11. Lead and direct helpers assigned to the work area to promote efficiency and completion of duties at the appropriate time. Requires the physical ability to stand, taste, smell, etc. Task requires the visual ability to distinguish color and texture, etc. Task requires the ability to operate eating utensils, measuring devices, etc. Employee is exposed to inside environmental conditions. Task requires the mental ability to analyze recipe problems and take corrective action. Task requires employee to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. 12. Report substandard foods or supplies as well as malfunctioning, broken, or unsafe equipment to the supervisor immediately. 13. Enforce all rules and regulations, including but not limited to proper payment of food and that proper procedures are followed by university employees regarding the payment of food; report all violations immediately to management. Requires the physical ability to lift, grasp, and exert up to 35 pounds of force unassisted. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: 1. Successful completion of Cashier Training Class and passing score on final test is required for positions with cashiering duties. Preferred Qualifications: 1. Experience in a school cafeteria, hospital cafeteria, or similar experience in quantity food preparation and/or service.
