Responsible for providing advanced support to the Safety Manager in directing activities associated with ensuring the health and safety of Butterball team members. - Supervises the day-to-day activities of a team of entry level individual contributors. Provides guidance, coaching, and support to ensure successful completion of tasks.
- Participates in HR activities such as hiring, terminations, performance management, goal setting, team member development, scheduling, etc.
- Enforces systems, policies, and procedures.
- Identifies training needs and facilitates the creation and execution of facility wide safety training and resource distribution.
- Monitors compliance with facility, corporate, and regulatory compliance ensuring team members work in safe and efficient methods.
- Reviews or serves as the facilitator for the investigation of incidents and guides the root cause analysis to identify the reason for incidents.
- Responsible for ensuring follow through of corrective action ensuring that modifications/improvements are tracked, documented, and completed within established timeframes.
- Responsible for complex tasks that assist in preparation for facility safety audits by maintaining site file plan.
- Ensures follow up and documentation of audit findings are completed within established frame frames.
- Partners on an annual review of policies, procedures, and forms to ensure team member safety and compliance with regulatory and company requirements.
- Conducts team member surveys to identify adverse health symptoms resulting from job hazards.
- Recommends and helps implement solutions that improve team members' well-being.
- Responsible for ensuring ergonomic practices are in place by conducting ergonomic job analysis, identifying musculoskeletal hazards, observing team member reactions to their environment/workspace/equipment, conducting research, performing statistical analysis, and reporting trends on a regular basis.
- Assists in design improvements to workstations or job methods, coordinates implementation of changes, and ensures all modifications are tracked, documented and completed within the established time frames.
- Assesses the suitability of products and systems for the capabilities and needs of team members.
- Utilizes relevant systems and shared safety processes.
- Complete annual verification of all safety preventative maintenance (PM) work orders and ensures that necessary PMs are generated and completed that address safety sensitive issues.
- Supports the execution and oversight of various safety programs, such as Facility Suggestion, facility auditing, IH testing, OSHA directives, etc.
- Provides resources for Safety Committee meetings.
Minimum Qualifications (Educations & Experience)
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
- 4+ years of relevant experience or the knowledge, skills, and abilities to succeed in the role
- 1+ years of leadership experience or the knowledge, skills, and abilities to succeed in the role

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of life-safety codes, OSHA and other regulatory agencies, Workers Compensation laws, and occupational health
- Solid knowledge of Ergonomics
- Basic knowledge of Industrial Hygiene practices
- Experience with protein processing and/or poultry operations
- Skilled at coaching, training, and motivating team members and leaders to embrace a culture of safety
- Solid communication, organization, time-management, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
- Ability to interpret and educate on standard practices, policies, and regulations
- Ability to identify and implement process improvements
- Solid project management skills with the ability to effectively guide project teams
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelor's degree in related field (i.e. Safety and Health)
- Occupational Health and/or Safety accredited professional certification
- Familiar with Process Safety Management (PSM)
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, keyboard, and occasionally lift up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions
- Work will be performed in a variety of conditions including a climate-controlled office environment(s) and in a manufacturing plant environment with varying conditions, such as cold areas, wet areas, warm areas, chemicals, and other site conditions. This position requires the individual to wear and work in personal protective equipment while in the manufacturing environment.
- The noise level of the office environment is usually moderate; the noise level in the manufacturing environment may exceed 85 DBA and require hearing protection.
- Occasional travel may be required.
