Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise and lead shop personnel including mechanics, weldermechanics, and laborers
  • Assign daily work, prioritize repairs, and balance workloads to meet project demands
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and mentoring to shop employees
  • Enforce company policies, safety procedures, and quality standards
  • Conduct performance feedback and support employee development

Shop & Maintenance Operations

  • Coordinate preventive maintenance and repair of heavy equipment, trucks, and trailers
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and weldingrelated issues
  • Review work orders, repair estimates, and parts requests for accuracy and efficiency
  • Monitor turnaround times to minimize equipment downtime
  • Ensure proper documentation of repairs, inspections, and maintenance records
  • Coordinate with field supervisors and project teams on equipment needs

Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient shop environment
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and company safety regulations
  • Conduct safety meetings and enforce proper use of PPE
  • Inspect tools, equipment, and shop facilities for safety and compliance
  • Support audits and equipment certifications as required

Inventory & Resource Management

  • Monitor parts inventory, tools, and shop supplies
  • Coordinate with vendors for parts procurement and outside repairs
  • Assist with budgeting, cost control, and tracking maintenance expenses
  • Ensure proper operation and upkeep of shop equipment and facilities

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance or repair
  • 2+ years of supervisory or lead experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and welding
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues
  • Experience with heavy highway construction equipment strongly preferred
  • Proficient with maintenance software, work orders, and recordkeeping
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Work performed in a shop and yard environment
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50+ lbs
  • Exposure to noise, dust, grease, and varying temperatures
  • Occasional field visits to active construction sites
