Description

Reporting to the Director of Clinical Experience and Innovation, the Podiatrist provides to Fenway Health patients adequate and efficient diagnosis and treatment of disorders, diseases, and injuries of the foot and lower leg.

Schedule: Part-Time 8 - 12 hours /week

Employment Status: Independent Contractor / Consultant (not a Fenway Health employee).
This role provides services under a contract agreement and is not eligible for Fenway Health employee benefits.

NOTE: Position may require some telehealth but would be expected on site for clinics unless otherwise arranged with Department leadership

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Diagnoses and treats diseases and deformities of human foot.
  • Diagnoses foot ailments, such as tumors, ulcers, fractures, skin or nail diseases, and congenital or acquired deformities, utilizing diagnostic aids, such as urinalysis, blood tests, and x-ray analysis.
  • Treats deformities, such as flat or weak feet and foot imbalance.
  • Completes and documents diabetic foot exams.
  • Treats conditions, such as corns, calluses, ingrowing nails, tumors, shortened tendons, bunions, cysts, and abscesses by surgical methods, including suturing, medications, and administration of local anesthetics.
  • Prescribes medications as appropriate to patient needs.
  • Does not perform foot amputations.
  • Corrects deformities by means of plaster casts and strappings.
  • Makes and fits prosthetic appliances.
  • Prescribes corrective footwear.
  • Advises patients concerning continued treatment of disorders and proper foot care to prevent recurrence.
  • Refers patients to physician when symptoms observed in feet and legs indicate systemic disorders, such as arthritis, heart disease, diabetes, or kidney trouble.
  • May treat bone, muscle, and joint disorders.
  • May perform surgery (at outside facility where appropriate credentialing/privileging has occurred).
  • Participates in health center quality improvement efforts
  • Complies with Fenway Health Infection Control plan and ensures compliance by support staff
  • Participates in peer review and quality improvement processes
  • Provides appropriate and timely documentation of clinical work
  • Maintains patient records in a timely manner in the electronic medical record
  • Completes forms and reports for insurance companies and other agencies, as needed
  • Provides and maintains credentials to practice medicine
  • Maintains full medical licensure in MA
  • Maintains controlled substance licensure in MA and federal DEA license
  • Maintains board eligibility or board certification in medicine (and subspecialty if applicable)
  • Maintains credentials with BIDPO and the CareGroup PSN
  • Continues professional development activities
  • Completes minimum CME requirements
  • Participates in educational conferences with other practitioners
  • Participates in outreach programs

  • Adheres to all agency and departmental policies and procedures
  • Participates in quality assessment and improvement activities as requested
  • Adheres to the highest principles of patient and client confidentiality
  • Adheres to established safety policies, procedures and precautions; identifies potential or actual unsafe situations in the environment and takes measures to rectify the situation
  • Attends all required meetings, in-services and professional trainings
  • Maintains professional competence necessary to perform job responsibilities; maintains and provides agency with records of continuing education activities
  • Serves on agency committees and in professional organizations when requested

Contractor Expectations

  • Adhere to Fenway Health clinical protocols and quality standards.
  • Maintain independent professional licensure, liability coverage, and CME as required for practice.
  • Meet documentation and recordkeeping requirements in a timely manner.
  • As a contractor, you will not receive Fenway Health employee benefits (e.g., paid time off, health insurance, retirement benefits).
Requirements
  1. DPM degree
  2. Current Massachusetts license
  3. Board eligibility or certification

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  1. OSHA Category 1: involves exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues

  • Regularly required: sitting; using hands to manipulate objects/tools/controls; reaching with hands and arms; talking; hearing
  • Frequently required: lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs.
  • Occasional required: lifting and/or moving up to 25 lbs.
  • Vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision depth perception, ability to adjust focus
