Looking for an exciting way to spend your summer while gaining real world experience in the Electrical Industry? Join Egan Company's Industrial Controls Process Engineering Team as a Controls Engineering Intern located at our headquarters in Champlin, MN.

In our summer internship program, you'll work alongside professionals in the industry while also engaging in events just for interns, including a jobsite ride-along, Insights Discovery workshop, mentorship opportunities, and more! Our internship program lasts approximately 12-weeks, with flexible start and end dates to meet the needs of your school and extracurricular schedule. With the flexibility of working hybrid, you can collaborate alongside team members with a blend of working in the office and at home.


Responsibilities

In this role, you'll work alongside experienced Engineers to develop, program, and test automated control systems and assist with documentation and organization of various support tools.

The responsibilities of the Controls Engineering Intern include but are not limited to the following:



  • Design & Documentation: Assist in developing electrical schematics and panel layouts using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • PLC/HMI Programming: Support the development and testing of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) code and Human Machine Interface (HMI) screens (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley focus).
  • System Testing: Participate in system testing in our UL 508A panel shop to verify wiring and logic before shipment.
  • Legacy Asset Management: Audit, organize, and archive legacy software and hardware assets. You will ensure that older program versions are properly cataloged to maintain long-term long-term customer support.
  • Code Standards Documentation: Collaborative development and refinement of group-wide programming standards. This includes describing and documenting tag naming conventions, standard logic blocks (Add-On Instructions), and HMI style guides to ensure consistency across all Egan projects.
  • Project Coordination: Help maintain project documentation, including I/O lists and BOMs (Bills of Materials).
  • Promote a positive safety culture by following Egan's safety policies.
  • Participate in construction document review.
  • Build strong internal partnerships, work collaboratively with other Egan groups to support Egan's Mission, Vision and Values.
  • Actively participate in Egan's Summer Internship Program and activities.
  • Perform additional duties and assignments as requested/assigned.


Requirements



  • Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • High school diploma or GED required.


Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of electrical circuits and a strong interest in automation. Familiarity with AutoCAD or programming languages (C++, Python, or Ladder Logic) is a plus.
  • Proficient in the use of standard office computer programs such as Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • High level of initiative, strong analytical problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with shop technicians and engineers.
  • Courteous, professional, diplomatic, and highly motivated.
  • Ability to adjust to changing priorities and methods.
  • Willingness to learn new ideas and concepts and take on new tasks and challenges.


Working Conditions

  • Performance of duties will mostly be in the Champlin office with visits to job sites as needed.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Exposure to loud noise, dirt, and exposure to the elements.
  • Climbing ladders/stairs, uneven ground, bending, kneeling, and twisting are frequent needs.

Pay Rate: $23.00 per hour
