Job Description Summary

This co-op position focuses on managing alerts and handling security events within a Security Operations Center (SOC). The IT Security Engineering Co-op will monitor, detect, and respond to security incidents while ensuring the overall security posture of the organization. This role requires familiarity with security monitoring tools, incident response, and threat analysis to protect the organization's IT environment. Responsibilities also include managing alerts, investigating security events, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring operational readiness through on-call rotations. The ideal candidate will possess foundational knowledge of cybersecurity principles, including incident response processes and risk management frameworks. (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001).

Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, analyze, and manage security alerts and events within the SOC.
  • Investigate, escalate, and respond to security incidents to mitigate risks effectively.
  • Perform daily security operations, including threat hunting and incident management.
  • Use tools such as SIEM, endpoint protection, and network monitoring systems to detect and prevent threats.

Security & Risk Management Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular vulnerability scans, risk assessments, and penetration tests.
  • Remediate identified security deficiencies and vulnerabilities.

Security Operations:

  • Develop and maintain security monitoring and alerting processes for critical systems.
  • Investigate and analyze security incidents to determine root causes and impacts.
  • Participate in on-call rotations to support the organization's security operations.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Education

  • Currently pursuing a degree fulltime in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Graduation date of December 2026 or later
  • Available to work a minimum of 25 hours per week, year-round.
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated on industry trends.
